What is a client success manager?

A Client Success Manager (CSM) is a professional responsible for building strong relationships with clients to ensure they achieve their desired outcomes with a company's products or services. CSMs act as the main point of contact for clients, helping them navigate onboarding, addressing concerns, and identifying opportunities for growth. Their role focuses on maximizing client satisfaction, retention, and long-term value. CSMs often work closely with sales, support, and product teams to advocate for client needs and foster loyalty.

How does a client success manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure client satisfaction?

Client Success Managers regularly work cross-functionally with teams such as Sales, Product, and Support to address client needs and proactively solve issues. For example, they may partner with Product to relay client feedback and prioritize feature requests, or coordinate with Support to resolve technical problems quickly. This collaborative approach ensures a seamless client experience and helps drive long-term retention. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential for success in this environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a client success manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Client Success Manager, you need a strong background in account management, relationship building, and customer service, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, customer support software, and data analytics tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help you proactively address client needs and foster long-term partnerships. These skills are essential for driving customer satisfaction, retention, and the overall growth of the business.

Job description

Own the client handoff after sales: understand what each customer needs, coordinate recruiting or product delivery, and turn every new relationship into a working account.

About Metix AI
  • Metix AI, formerly OpenJobs AI, is a Silicon Valley-based AI recruiting company building Mira, an AI recruiter that runs job understanding, candidate search, outreach after you approve, and interview scheduling.
  • We have raised $5.5M across two oversubscribed seed rounds within six months, backed by investors including Rsquared Investment, LongRiver Investments, Fengshion Capital, and technology executives. Our customers include high-growth technology companies and multinational businesses across social commerce, generative AI infrastructure, robotics, and other emerging sectors.
  • Unlike traditional HCM or ATS software, Metix AI is focused on delivering hiring outcomes, not just workflow tools. Mira is built on a vertical recruiting model and agent architecture, powered by a feedback loop from real hiring signals such as candidate replies, interviews, offers, hires, and retention.
  • Mira now covers talent profiles across 190+ countries and has helped customers shorten hiring cycles, schedule first-round interviews faster, and reduce repetitive recruiting work. We are also partnering with Deel to connect recruiting, EOR, and global payroll capabilities for companies hiring across borders.
  • We are now expanding our North America commercial team across sales, GTM, and client success. As more founder-led sales conversations turn into real customers, we need someone who can own the next step: understand the client, decide what needs to happen, and coordinate the right people until the work is actually moving.
  • This role sits between client success, recruiting delivery, HR Tech, and early GTM. It is not a polished account management job with a playbook waiting for you. You will help build the playbook.
What you'll do
  • Own client handoff after founder or sales conversations, clarify what the customer actually needs, and turn loose next steps into concrete action.
  • Manage day-to-day client communication across recruiting services, talent search, HR Tech product usage, and follow-up support.
  • Route each opportunity correctly: some clients need recruiting delivery, some need product onboarding, some need deal support, and some need a mix of all three.
  • Coordinate with U.S.-based founders, sales, and client contacts, as well as China-based recruiting and delivery teams.
  • Learn the Metix AI product and service model deeply enough to explain it clearly, answer practical questions, and help clients move forward.
  • Track account status, next steps, risks, feedback, and expansion opportunities in a structured way.
  • Join client meetings, founder meetings, Bay Area events, and community activities when useful.
  • Help turn repeated client questions and delivery patterns into a repeatable client success process.
Who you are
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate. This is an onsite-first role.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in client success, account management, recruiting, headhunting, HR Tech, B2B SaaS, BDR/SDR, or sales support.
  • You understand recruiting, HR, or talent acquisition well enough that a client problem does not sound abstract to you.
  • You are strong with clients: responsive, clear, organized, and calm when several things are moving at once.
  • You can work with ambiguity. If a founder says "this client may need recruiting, product, or both," you can ask the right questions and create order.
  • You have enough sales instinct to recognize account potential, but you do not need to be the person closing every new deal.
  • Mandarin-English bilingual ability is a strong plus, given our cross-border client base and delivery teams.
  • You are genuinely curious about AI, recruiting, and how the recruiter role will change.
Bonus points
  • Experience in recruiting, staffing, executive search, or HR Tech.
  • Experience as a client success manager or implementation partner for a SaaS product.
  • Bay Area HR, recruiting, founder, or startup network.
  • You have worked in a small startup where there was no clean boundary between sales, operations, and customer success.
  • You already use AI tools in your own workflow.
This may not be for you if
  • You need a mature CS playbook, clean handoff process, and fully built internal team before you can move.
  • You only want to manage accounts after everything has already been sold, scoped, and documented.
  • You dislike switching between client calls, internal coordination, recruiting details, and product questions.
  • You are not comfortable being judged by follow-through.
Compensation
  • Expected base compensation is USD 75,000 to 120,000 per year, depending on experience, role scope, and fit. Performance-based bonus or commission may be available depending on business contribution.
