Job description

About the Company

DRDA is responsible for owning the client-facing advisory relationship from discovery through ongoing advisory. This role builds trust, understands the client’s business and personal objectives, translates complex tax advisory concepts into clear business decisions, and creates a client experience that leads to confidence, retention, and referrals. This is not a transactional tax role. The role requires strong consultative presence, executive communication, business-owner empathy, and the ability to guide clients through ambiguity, risk, competing priorities, and implementation resistance. The TAS Client Advisory Lead partners closely with technical tax strategy and implementation resources to ensure clients experience DRDA as coordinated, confident, and accountable.

Position Summary

DRDA is seeking a senior client relationship manager to lead high-trust advisory relationships with business owners and executives. This role owns the client experience from discovery through strategy presentations, implementation, ongoing advisory, retention, and referral development. You will translate tax, business, and financial strategies into clear decisions, coordinate CPAs and other advisors, and help clients move from recommendation to action.

This is not a tax preparation or transactional tax role. It is a client-facing business advisory position for someone with executive presence, active listening skills, business-owner empathy, and experience guiding clients through complex decisions, competing priorities, and change. You will also help improve the processes and tools supporting DRDA’s growing advisory practice.

What You Will Do

Client Discovery and Relationship Management

  • Build trust and credibility with prospective and existing Tax Advisory Services clients.
  • Lead discovery meetings to understand each client’s business goals, pain points, family context, ownership structure, advisor relationships, decision dynamics, and future direction.
  • Serve as the primary relationship lead and maintain continuity throughout discovery, strategy development, presentation, implementation, and ongoing advisory.
  • Identify concerns, resistance, emotional drivers, risks, and unstated needs early.

Advisory Communication and Decision Support

  • Translate complex tax, business, financial, and implementation concepts into clear language for business owners and executives.
  • Present strategy concepts, recommendations, risks, timing, tradeoffs, and next steps.
  • Facilitate client strategy meetings and frame recommendations around client priorities and desired outcomes.
  • Adapt communication to the audience, room dynamics, emotional tone, and level of sophistication.
  • Lead difficult conversations involving delays, uncertainty, technical limitations, risk, or implementation challenges.

Implementation, Retention, and Growth

  • Monitor implementation progress, remaining gaps, savings achieved, strategic impact, and emerging risks.
  • Maintain client confidence through consistent communication, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Identify additional advisory opportunities as the client’s business, family, ownership goals, advisor relationships, or operating environment change.
  • Support client retention, repeat engagements, and referrals by delivering a differentiated advisory experience.

Internal and External Collaboration

  • Coordinate with CPAs, tax strategists, business coaches, bookkeepers, attorneys, financial advisors, and other specialists.
  • Ensure client priorities and decision drivers are understood internally and reflected in technical design and implementation planning.
  • Align stakeholders around client expectations, commitments, responsibilities, and next steps.
  • Escalate relationship, communication, technical, or risk issues appropriately.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in professional services, consulting, business advisory, client relationship management, client success, account management, or a comparable client-facing role.
  • Demonstrated experience serving business owners or executives as the primary relationship lead.
  • Proven ability to lead client meetings and present confidently to diverse audiences.
  • Strong active listening, discovery, executive communication, facilitation, and decision-support skills.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues and guide clients through ambiguity, risk, and competing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of business fundamentals, finance, tax concepts, and the roles of common professional advisors.
  • Experience coordinating multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong professional judgment, discretion, confidentiality, organization, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual meeting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience owning or operating a small business.
  • At least two years of experience working in a business with fewer than 10 employees.
  • Familiarity with tax strategies and firsthand exposure to tax strategy implementation.
  • Experience supporting client retention, referral development, and business growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; candidates from a variety of academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Core Skills

  • Client relationship management and account management
  • Tax advisory and business advisory
  • Executive communication, presentation, and facilitation
  • Active listening and client discovery
  • Stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strategic thinking, decision support, and change management
  • Client retention, referral development, and professional services
  • Success in This Role
  • Clients understand, trust, and act on DRDA recommendations.
  • Discovery information is complete, accurate, and useful for technical design.
  • Client meetings create clarity, confidence, and forward movement.
  • Client concerns and implementation barriers are surfaced and addressed early.
  • Internal teams remain aligned around client priorities, commitments, and decision drivers.
  • Clients stay engaged through implementation and ongoing advisory, generating repeat work and referrals.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

DRDA is a growing, dynamic advisory firm with an established client base and high expectations. Our processes, methods, and tools continue to mature, so this role is best suited to someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, and collaborating across disciplines.

The position offers flexible work arrangements, with regular in-person connection encouraged because the team relies on close collaboration.
