About this business area:

An Analyst who joins the Client Financial Analysis and Optimization (CFAO) team provides financial consultation and pricing support to help CVS Caremark win and retain business. They will also work directly with the client and the sales team to provide insight into a client's pharmaceutical data to make informed decisions on their key health care strategies.

An analyst working in CVS Caremark's Client Financial Analysis and Optimization Team interacts with individuals and teams that are both internal and external to the organization. The breadth of CVS Caremark services presents an opportunity to work with multiple functional areas including sales, clinical, account management, finance, underwriting, and product marketing. Activities of an analyst typically include gaining better insight into a client's business problem to be solved; formulating a data-driven approach to solve the problem; analyzing and drawing conclusions; and presenting recommendations to the client or Sr. Leadership.

An individual who joins this team will develop and/or maintain expert knowledge of the rapidly changing healthcare marketplace, pharmacy benefits management industry, CVS Caremark data warehouses and CVS Caremark programs, services, and sales goals.

The individual selected for this role will work under different managers and experience different business units and roles as part of an initial 18-month rotation, before permanent placement on a dedicated team. The rotation will provide an opportunity to gain PBM foundational knowledge, build analytic skills, learn underwriting, and much more.

A candidate on this team will perform a variety of client analyses in response to specific business questions. This person then communicates those findings, including recommendations back to key business leaders of our clients. The consultative nature of the position means there is potential for a high frequency of client facing activities and meetings. This may include on-site or teleconferenced presentations as an individual or team, and written documents for assigned clients and in support of other clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners including sales, clinical, account management, finance, underwriting, operations, networks, trade, and product marketing
  • Gain insight into the PBM or a client's business problem to be solved; formulating a data-driven approach to solve the problem; and presenting solutions to the client or executive team.
  • Provide consultation on all aspects of PBM pricing offers, including retail networks, specialty and mail dispensing, pharmaceutical manufacturer rebates, and administrative fees
  • Develop and apply information on pricing concepts and strategies to create competitive financial offers
  • Understand and support client's financial goals and objectives
  • Manage tight deadlines, ensure deliverables are met and accurate
  • Occasional travel to client site to participate in client meetings may be required


Required Qualifications

  • 1 year of overall related experience pertaining to:
  • 1 year of experience in analytic skills
  • 1 year of experience in a field such as: finance, mathematics, operational analysis, statistics, epidemiology, sales and marketing research, accounting, economics or other data-driven field
  • Must have successfully completed corporate internship program
  • Experience requirements may be met through educational and/or internship experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience extracting, manipulating, and analyzing Big Data (data bases containing multiple terabytes of data) and then using it to draw relevant conclusions
  • Knowledge of SAS or other statistical and database software, including STATA, SPSS, R, and SQL highly preferred
  • Experience or knowledge of pharmaceuticals or health care industry is preferred
  • Experience in advanced Microsoft Excel-based modeling
  • MBA or Master's in data analytics, finance, economics, or similar quantitative field
  • Have an interest in obtaining full-time position within CVS Health upon graduation

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$43,888.00 - $102,081.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
