The Job/What You'll Do:
This is a unique opportunity to help build AssetMark's Private Wealth business from the ground up. As a Client Portfolio Manager, you'll work directly with high-net-worth advisors and clients while partnering closely with the Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Management, Research, Wealth Planning, and Private Wealth Consulting teams. This is a highly visible role where you'll help shape portfolio strategy, develop investment thought leadership, and influence the future of AssetMark's Private Wealth offering. The Client Portfolio Manager (CPM) delivers an exceptional investment experience for AssetMark's Private Wealth clients through comprehensive portfolio reviews, personalized investment guidance, and ongoing client engagement.
Working closely with Private Wealth Consultants, the Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Management, Research, Wealth Planning, Product, Marketing, and Financial Advisors, the CPM helps ensure portfolios remain aligned with clients' evolving objectives, market conditions, and long-term financial goals.
The CPM also develops investment commentary, portfolio review content, and advisor-facing collateral that support AssetMark's investment strategies, portfolio enhancements, and new product launches.
This is a full-time position in our Charlotte, NC office with a hybrid work schedule.
Responsibilities:
Portfolio Oversight & Reviews:
  • Conduct comprehensive portfolio reviews, including portfolio positioning, retirement income, tax management services, cash management, and Wealth Planning recommendations
  • Maintain expertise across AssetMark's investment strategies, model portfolios, wealth management solutions, and portfolio enhancements
  • Communicate portfolio positioning, performance, market outlook, and investment guidance to advisors and clients

Investment Communications & Thought Leadership:
  • Develop market commentary, portfolio performance updates, trade rationales, portfolio review materials, and educational content
  • Partner with the CIO, Portfolio Management, and Research to translate investment views and portfolio changes into clear advisor and client communications
  • Develop investment collateral, presentations, advisor education, and client communications supporting new investment solutions

Private Wealth Leadership:
  • Partner with Private Wealth Consultants to ensure a seamless transition from portfolio implementation to ongoing investment relationship management
  • Collaborate with the CIO, Portfolio Management, Research, Wealth Planning, Product, and Marketing teams to deliver a coordinated Private Wealth offering
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the advisor and client experience through feedback on client needs, portfolio enhancements, and new investment capabilities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of portfolio construction, capital markets, and high-net-worth wealth management, including retirement income, tax-aware investing, and alternatives
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex investment concepts in a clear, client-friendly manner
  • Executive presence with the ability to engage high-net-worth clients, advisors, and senior leadership
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related field required
  • CFA®, CAIA®, MBA, or similar professional designation preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in wealth management, investment consulting, portfolio management, private banking, or institutional asset management
  • Experience working directly with high-net-worth clients and financial advisors preferred

Compensation: The Base Salary range for this position is between $140,000-$155,000.
This information reflects a base salary range that AssetMark reasonably expects to pay for the position based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and actual work location. This position will also be eligible for additional variable incentive compensation and competitive benefits.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
