Responsibilities
CBIZ is seeking a Director/Senior Director, Private Equity & Venture Capital Business Development to drive enterprise-wide growth across the private equity, venture capital, and technology and SaaS company ecosystem in the NY Metro market. This senior, market-facing role is responsible for developing and deepening relationships with private equity sponsors, venture capital firms, operating partners, portfolio company leaders, and high-growth technology companies, while ensuring awareness and sales of CBIZ's full platform of services to support companies across the investment lifecycle.
The role is focused on selling and expanding enterprise-wide CBIZ solutions - including tax, audit, advisory, valuation, consulting, employee benefits, insurance, and other relevant offerings - to PE- and VC-backed portfolio companies and technology-enabled businesses, with an emphasis on cross-selling, coordinated pursuit leadership along-side Managing Directors and Industry Leader as well as long-term relationship development. The individual will act as a trusted advisor externally and an internal quarterback, aligning CBIZ service teams to deliver a unified, high-value client experience.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties
Private Equity, Venture Capital & Technology Coverage
  • Build, manage, and expand senior-level relationships with private equity firms, venture capital firms, operating partners, and investment professionals, as well as executives within PE- and VC-backed portfolio companies and technology-driven businesses.
  • Develop a deep understanding of investment strategies, value-creation priorities, operating models, and growth challenges across PE- and VC-backed companies, including early-stage, growth-stage, and mature technology-enabled organizations.
  • Translate sponsor- and investor-level relationships into repeatable portfolio company and operating company opportunities, supporting companies from formation and scale through acquisition, integration, and exit.
Portfolio Company & Operating Company Penetration
  • Lead a portfolio and operating-company penetration strategy that identifies where CBIZ can deliver incremental value through expanded and cross-service relationships across tax, audit, advisory, valuation, consulting, benefits, insurance, and related solutions.
  • Partner with internal CBIZ leaders and existing market facing resources to support companies navigating rapid growth, complex compensation structures, equity plans, M&A activity, international expansion, compliance demands, and operational scaling, particularly common in VC-backed and technology environments.
  • Position CBIZ as a long-term advisor supporting both investor objectives and management execution, rather than transactional, service-specific selling.

Enterprise-Wide Selling & Pursuit Leadership
  • Serve as the market-facing pursuit leader for complex, multi-disciplinary opportunities across the PE, VC, and technology ecosystem, coordinating the right CBIZ service-line, regional, and industry leaders.
  • Drive a OneCBIZ, team-selling approach, ensuring alignment around pursuit strategy, client messaging, value proposition, and execution across practices.
  • Maintain accountability for opportunity qualification, advancement, and close, while ensuring a consistent and high-quality client experience.

Regional Growth Strategy & Market Leadership
  • Develop and execute a NY Metro growth strategy for private equity, venture capital, and technology markets, including target sponsor prioritization, portfolio mapping, technology-sector focus areas, and coordinated go-to-market initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with venture capital firms, accelerators, incubators, law firms, lenders, investment banks, and technology-focused intermediaries that expand market access and opportunity flow.
  • Represent CBIZ through select thought leadership, events, and market-facing activity relevant to investors and technology-driven businesses.

Revenue Ownership & Sales Discipline
  • Own pipeline development, forecasting, and revenue contribution tied to PE-, VC-, and technology-focused opportunities.
  • Maintain disciplined use of Salesforce CRM and related sales processes to track activity, relationships, and pipeline health.
  • Develop and execute an annual business development plan aligned with regional and firm-wide growth priorities.

Internal Leadership & Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Regional Business Development leadership, regional office leaders, practice leaders, industry leaders, marketing, and national PE/VC leadership to drive coordinated execution.
  • Influence effectively across a matrixed organization, driving accountability and momentum without formal authority.
  • Mentor and support business development peers and practitioners by sharing market insight, pursuit best practices, and investor- and technology-sector knowledge.
  • Drive measurable growth through new client wins, expanded services, and multi-service relationships across PE- and VC-backed portfolio companies and technology-driven businesses.
  • Build a sustainable pipeline anchored in investor relationships and operating-company penetration, not one-off transactions.
  • Contribute to regional and firm growth by increasing share of wallet, cross-practice collaboration, and sponsor loyalty across the NY Metro market.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development or growth leadership within professional services, with exposure to private equity, venture capital, and/or technology companies.
  • Proven success in enterprise or consultative selling, managing complex, multi-stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage credibly with investors, founders, CEOs, CFOs, and senior operators.
  • Strong familiarity with the NY Metro / Central New Jersey market.
  • High degree of organization, follow-through, and comfort operating within structured sales and CRM processes.
  • Existing relationships with PE sponsors, VC firms, technology founders, operating partners, and investment intermediaries.
  • Experience supporting high-growth, technology-enabled companies, including equity compensation, scaling operations, M&A activity, and exit readiness.
  • Experience coordinating multiple service lines in enterprise-level pursuits.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence in a matrixed professional services environment.
