Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is hiring a Full-time, 7 days a week, Home Care Assistant. Responsible for helping clients maintain independence through homecare and personal assistance.

Essential Functions:
  • Observation of client functioning and reporting changes to his/her supervisor or employer; take initiative in notifying supervisor of changes in the client.
  • Assist with household chores, including but not limited to planning and cooking meals, making beds, dusting, washing dishes, vacuuming, sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning rooms and doing laundry.
  • Assist in completing activities such as shopping and appointments outside of the home.
  • Assist client with activities of daily living and personal care (bathing, shampoo/drying hair, shaving, medication reminders, nail care, mouth care and dressing).
  • Assist with ambulation, positioning, toileting, and transfers.
  • Complete the appropriate records documenting service provisions; follow the plan of care and report changes in calendar.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individual in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.

Position Qualifications:
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) or one (1) year experience in a comparable human service capacity, or one (1) year experience in caring for a dependent child or adult family member, or demonstration of continued progress towards meeting educational requirements of a general education diploma required.
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Must complete required training prior to being assigned direct service work.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic homecare duties, ability to follow and perform duties as assigned on the client plan of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to show compassion for the needs of the client.
  • Valid driver's license, in good standing for the state of residency preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.
  • Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage, bodily injury and property damage preferred.
