Job description

Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Working under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager or Director, the MLT ensures accurate and timely test results in accordance with laboratory protocols, regulatory guidelines (CLIA, CAP, OSHA), and quality assurance standards.

Job Specific

  • Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank

  • Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment

  • Verify and validate test results; identify discrepancies or unexpected findings

  • Document results accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)

  • Participate in quality control, proficiency testing, and quality improvement activities

  • Follow laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures

  • Assist with inventory management and supply stocking

  • Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, and clinical staff regarding urgent or critical results

  • Participate in continuing education and training activities

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent from an accredited program

  • Completion of a NAACLS-accredited MLT program

  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent)

  • Current state licensure, if applicable

Preferred:

  • One year of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or outpatient lab

  • Familiarity with CLIA regulations and CAP accreditation standards
