Managing Clerk

The Managing Clerk is a position in the firm's Washington, DC Managing Attorney's Office (MAO). The MAO supports and assists the firm's practice groups - primarily the Litigation Group - on court-related matters. The MAO's primary responsibilities include monitoring litigation relevant to the firm's practice groups and clientele, filing and serving all litigation papers, monitoring pending court cases, tracking litigation deadlines, researching and retrieving court documents and public records, providing guidance on court rules and procedures, and assisting with federal court admissions. The DC MAO is staffed by one Managing Clerk, who reports to the Managing Attorney and works closely with both the Managing Attorney, attorneys and paralegals in the Litigation Group, and two assistant managing clerks who report to the Managing Clerk.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Managing Attorney in managing the day-to-day functions of the MAO and supervising a staff of two Assistant Managing Clerks
  • Assigning work from the MAO email inbox as workflow requires
  • Coordinating and supervising the filing and service of litigation documents
  • Conducting research into federal and state court filings and other public records using Bloomberg Law, CourtLink, CourtAlert and other public resources
  • Reviewing all monitor updates and ECF notifications to note significant case developments
  • Setting up and circulating alerts and monitor updates as needed
  • Creating reports/memos regarding attorney admissions and renewal status for the DC Bar and various federal courts
  • Assisting assistant managing clerks troubleshoot ECF filing issues
  • Managing and maintaining attorney PACER accounts
  • Reviewing and verifying docketing and calendaring assignments for accuracy
  • Acting as liaison with court personnel
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of five years prior experience in AmLaw 100 Managing Attorney's or Managing Clerk's Office, including some management or supervisory experience
  • Expertise with PACER and CM/ECF
  • Experience with Bloomberg Law
  • Experience with CourtAlert case management system or comparable calendaring/docketing systems
  • Strong knowledge of local state and federal court procedures
  • Knowledge of attorney licensing and renewal processes (DC Bar and various federal courts)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Background in supervising or managing team workflows

The estimated base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
