Position Overview

The Afternoon Floater serves as a key support person across classrooms and is an essential part of our closing team. This role ensures smooth transitions, consistent ratios, and a calm, organized end-of-day environment for children, families, and staff.

The ideal candidate is steady, observant, responsive, and comfortable moving between age groups (infants through preschool). This person thrives in dynamic environments and understands that closing sets the tone for family communication and daily continuity.


Core Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Float between classrooms to maintain ratios and provide coverage during breaks and transitions
  • Support children with play, routines, toileting, handwashing, and end-of-day transitions
  • Assist with snack distribution and cleanup
  • Provide emotional co-regulation and support as children wind down

Closing Duties

  • Consolidate classrooms as enrollment numbers decrease
  • Support dismissal and family pick-up procedures
  • Communicate brief daily highlights to families as needed
  • Reset classrooms for the next day (tidying materials, sanitizing surfaces, organizing supplies)
  • Ensure lights, doors, gates, and security procedures are properly completed
  • Take out trash and assist with end-of-day cleaning checklist

Team Collaboration

  • Follow lead teacher guidance when supporting in classrooms
  • Maintain clear communication with site leadership
  • Model professionalism, calm energy, and consistency

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children (infant5 years preferred)
  • Comfortable working across multiple classrooms and age groups
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to independently manage closing procedures
  • Warm, patient, and emotionally attuned
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and engage actively indoors and outdoors
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
  • Must meet Bright from the Start background check requirements
