What is a classic?

The term 'Classic' by itself is not a standard job title and does not refer to a specific profession. In some contexts, 'Classic' may refer to roles related to classical studies, such as a classicist who studies ancient Greek and Roman language, literature, and history. However, without additional context, 'Classic' is ambiguous and may not correspond to a particular job. If you are referring to a specific industry or role, providing more detail will help clarify the meaning of 'Classic' in that context.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a classic car mechanic?

To thrive as a Classic Car Mechanic, you need in-depth knowledge of automotive repair, restoration techniques, and vintage vehicle systems, often supported by a relevant technical diploma or ASE certification. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, specialized restoration equipment, and original manufacturer manuals is vital. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a passion for classic cars set outstanding mechanics apart in this field. These abilities ensure the preservation, safety, and optimal performance of classic vehicles for enthusiasts and collectors.

What are some common challenges faced by classic car restoration specialists, and how can they be overcome?

Classic car restoration specialists often encounter challenges such as sourcing authentic or rare parts, working with outdated technology, and meeting client expectations for historical accuracy. Overcoming these requires strong research skills, networking with suppliers and other enthusiasts, and maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Collaboration with fellow restorers and continuous learning about classic models can also help specialists stay current and deliver high-quality results.

Job description

Whether or not you have heard of Cars Remember When, we stand out for our beautiful showroom featuring about 60 classic vehicles for sale. We also have a robust, collocated mechanical repair/restoration center (including custom fabrication and performance tuning) and a separate building specializing in full- or partial-paint/body classic-vehicle restoration. We are the ‘Big Dog’ in the western region related to classic vehicles. Our combined total climate-controlled indoor square footage is about 55,000 square feet.

Over the past 10 years, our business has grown in many ways, driven by our expertise and dedication to customer satisfaction. We find ourselves in a position to add from one to three competent vehicle mechanics who want to work with us and share our values going forward.

We have considerable flexibility in our next hires, depending on your experience and knowledge of mechanical systems, classic vehicle repairs, and custom fabrication/performance tuning. (We have an enclosed in-house dyno) While we do have considerable flexibility, we would prefer our next hire to be highly experienced and able to demonstrate that knowledge. Total compensation (base and weekly bonuses) is very much contingent upon your knowledge base, experience, and mechanical abilities.

We are also willing to consider individuals who are well-trained and experienced in vehicle repairs of newer vintage, who possess a strong desire to learn classic vehicle repair and have the aptitude to do so. Again, total compensation is dependent on your skill and experience levels.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the right person(s). Think about working on these vintage vehicles or taking a Boss 302 for a test drive. Prefer Mopar? How about working on a 440, 3x2 carbs in a 1970 Roadrunner? Our pay is based on wall-clock hours, not a flat rate, with a substantial weekly bonus based on the week’s performance. We are a caring, family-owned business. Our employees are happy, and we care about their future. Medical benefits, PTO, and standard 401 (k) programs are available.

Let us know how you could fit into our fantastic business; you just may be the next hire. We are an equal opportunity employer.

Employment Type: Full Time
Years Experience: 5 - 10 years
Salary: $45,000 - $80,000 Annual
Bonus/Commission: Yes
