Job Opportunity: 

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for an entry level Claims Operations Analyst. This Claims Operations Analyst position may handle a variety of claims support functions. Core activities include first notice intake/data capture of Property & Casualty line commercial claims.

This is a visible and interactive role with the claim examiners, business partners and external customers. It requires a strong ability to learn and responsibly evaluate different policy and claim situations, with equally strong attention to detail. Other keys to success are commitment to customer service and quality, ability to understand and communicate technical concepts; ability to prioritize and handle multiple activities. With expansion, other functional responsibilities involving different insurance lines of business or other operational related work such as reporting, compliance, quality assurance, report analysis or projects may be assigned.

Our office is in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area of metro Atlanta. The candidate should reside in the Atlanta area and be within commuting distance of our office.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The responsibilities listed here reflect those of the different functions of the department. All responsibilities are not assigned to the candidate upon initial hire but are expected to evolve based upon the individual’s development. Discussion and screening of the necessary skill sets will be evaluated for all interviewed candidates.

  • Evaluate, review, and analyze policies compared to new claim loss reports to determine claim type and appropriate policy coverage provisions; decision making for correct coding and claims handler assignments as well as responses to brokers, insureds, and third-party administrators (TPA).
  • Understand key insurance concepts regarding policy coverages, deductibles as related to the impact on claim submissions processing.
  • Acknowledge claims to insureds, brokers and TPAs in a professional, accurate and timely manner according to account specific guidelines.
  • Focus on processing incoming work items within established turn-around times with high quality and accurate claim coding.
  • Contribute to process efficiencies by providing input from learned procedures and team interactions.
  • Learn, understand, and utilize technology for work processing in a changing and evolving environment.

  • Process other claim support tasks in support of claim handler adjusting processes as experience is achieved.

 Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and accompanying workflows.

  • Strong computer and mathematical skills and basic bookkeeping.  
  • Strong, inquisitive learning skills, flexible and adaptable to changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals and teams.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Excel.

Additional skills that are an advantage for this position, but not required:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of commercial policy coverages and structure
  • Familiarity with primary, excess, and underlying policy coverages.
  • Experience in commercial claims, Property, Casualty, Marine, Small Business, and Executive and Professional lines.
  • Experience in commercial insurance, any combination of claims, underwriting, or education.
  • GA Adjuster license helpful.

The base salary range for this position is from $50,000 – $55,000 along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s actual salary is commensurate with experience as determined by their relevant skills and experience.
