About Our Personal Lines Claims Team

In Personal Lines Claims, we are there for our customers when they need us most! Do you have the ability to communicate compassionately? Do you love to learn new things every day? If so, and if you'd thrive in a fast-paced environment where your professional growth and development is both encouraged and supported, we want to know more about you!
As a Personal Lines Claims Intern, you'll learn more about the critical role a claims associate provides when a customer experiences a loss. We'll count on you to promote and provide outstanding customer service and be responsible for assisting with the disposition of claims according to claims best practices.
Four interns will be accepted with placement in Property or Auto.

A day in the life of a Personal Lines Claims Intern might include:

  • Completes training necessary to understand the claims process to support the claims organization.
  • Adheres to high standards of professional conduct
  • Learn more about determining proper policy coverages and, where necessary, assist with investigations, evaluations, and estimates in alignment with company guidelines, and applying best claims practices.
  • Builds knowledge of: Personal Lines auto or property damage claims; current guidelines in the claims function; and policy changes and modifications.
  • Submits administrative reports as the need arises.
  • Initiates and conducts follow-ups using the claims handling system or other related systems.
  • Delivers an outstanding customer service experience to all internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Complete a capstone project: Identify an opportunity area within the Claims function, develop a solution to address the opportunity and present the proposal to Personal Lines Claims leadership team for consideration.

About You

A successful Personal Lines Claims Intern at Nationwide has:

Education

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field
  • Completion of sophomore or junior year is preferred
  • Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience

Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to acquire skills necessary to make decisions and find a resolution in such areas as application of coverages to submitted claims, application of laws of jurisdiction to investigatory facts, application of policy exclusions and exceptions.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-based environment.
  • Written and verbal communication skills for contact and/or consultation with policyholders, claimants, repairpersons, attorneys, physicians, agents and the general public.
  • Ability to efficiently operate personal computer and software for claims-related and other business applications.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is: $23 - $50
