Job Description:
Job Purpose
The purpose of the Retail Pharmacy Technician is to help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other healthcare products to patients. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medications for patients, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles.
Essential Job Functions
  • Fill prescriptions for P.O. chemotherapy and supportive care medications
    • Data entry
    • Packaging
    • Checking out
  • Manage inventory
    • Replenish and deliver all floor stock orders, controlled substances, and medications.
    • Return and credit usable stock to inventory upon discontinuation of an order.
    • Assist co-workers in stocking medication shelves or other areas of the pharmacy with shipments received from vendors.
  • Clean equipment and work areas as required.
  • Ensure outstanding claims are paid in a timely manner.
  • Answer phones.
  • Data entry.
  • Comply with all Alabama BOP laws and regulations.
  • Run cash register; handle money, close cash register at end of business day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and be able to multi-task.

Education/Experience
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Alabama Technician license required.
  • PTCB certification preferred.
  • At least (2) years retail pharmacy experience preferred.

Working conditions
This position works in the retail pharmacy of a busy outpatient oncology/hematology clinic. This employee will have direct contact with patients, some of whom are very ill.
Physical requirements
This position requires that the employee be able to stand and walk for up to eight hours a day.
Direct reports
This position is not a supervisory position.
