Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Engineering Inspector is responsible for inspecting construction methods and workmanship on City of Conroe and construction projects to ensure compliance in accordance with plans and specifications including City Subdivision Ordinance and the legally established construction standards; enforces codes and requirements for civil engineering projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. College education in engineering, construction or math with surveying and/or drafting. A degree in construction management or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience in construction inspection activities with a municipality, public entity, or a consulting civil engineering firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher; Class D Water Operator; Class D Sanitary Collection; Certified Storm Water Inspector.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of engineering project plans and specifications, contract documents, bid items, and City requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable inspection methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable testing methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of code requirements and how they apply to a particular project.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
  • Ability to conduct a simple field investigation of the location of water and sewer lines, open manhole covers, cross ditches, and help survey crew.
  • Ability to establish elevations using surveying equipment.
  • Ability to read civil engineering drawings regarding public works projects (water, sewer, and streets).
  • Ability to drive to sites, set survey equipment to check elevations and alignment of work and inspect pipes in ditches.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
