Job: Civil Engineer Intern - Traffic

Location: Lenexa, KS or Chesterfield, MO

GBA Companies is welcoming Civil Engineering students to join us this upcoming summer for an internship in our Transportation market focusing on projects within our Traffic Group.

Interns at GBA Companies gain hands-on experience in a collaborative work environment and have an opportunity to work side by side with industry experts. We treat each intern as an individual and have the unique ability to offer rotational opportunities for students who are still identifying their path. Our interns will work with engineering software such as Civil3D, AutoCAD and MicroStation.


What You'll Do:

As a Civil Engineering Intern, you’ll:

  • Assist with design and 3D modeling of bridges.
  • Support quality control processes and follow client design standards.
  • Assist with design calculations and geometric layout.
  • Help prepare plan quantities and cost estimates.
  • Participate in field assignments such as construction inspections.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team.
  • Engage in an active learning environment with mentorship from experienced engineers.
  • Assist in the layout and design of traffic signals, roadway lighting, pavement markings, and signing.
  • Analyze traffic operations to determine levels of service.
  • Review crash data to identify correctable patterns.
  • Perform traffic volume analysis and forecasting.
  • Prepare Traffic Impact Study (TIS) and Traffic Design Study documents.
  • Use traffic simulation modeling tools to generate operational data and graphics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:
  • Pursuing BS or MS in Civil Engineering or other related field from accredited program.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel software is preferred
  • 2.7 GPA strongly preferred
  • Finished at least two years of school
  • Prior Internship is and/or related experience is a plus
  • Involved in campus, community, and other volunteer activities and/ or organization
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
