Job DescriptionOverview

The Project Engineer role will be hired under the Engineering Management Centre of Excellence group within the Engineering Management Technical Professional Organization (TPO) of Engineering Services Canada. The Project Engineer role will play a support role in the delivery of Engineering Services on a large project in Calgary.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the candidate will be assigned to the project to support the planning, design, and execution of civil infrastructure components for a major LRT project. As part of the Delivery Partner team, the role involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, and contributing to the successful delivery of transit infrastructure on time and within budget.

Project requires 5 days a week at the project office.

Your role
  • Assist in the planning, design, and construction oversight of civil works including track beds, stations, bridges, tunnels, and utility relocations.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment with project specifications and timelines.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design, safety, and quality standards.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, progress updates, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in site inspections, field investigations, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure adherence to municipal, provincial, and federal regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Collaborate with environmental, geotechnical, structural, and systems engineering teams.
  • Track project milestones and support cost and schedule control efforts.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in transit or infrastructure projects.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian engineering codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred Assets:
    • Experience with LRT or other rail/transit infrastructure projects.
    • Familiarity with Public-Private Partnership (P3) delivery models.
    • Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in large capital programs in an engineering/design management position with a focus on terminal renovation/improvement programs.
