What does a Civil Engineer Relocation Intern do?

A Civil Engineer Relocation Intern assists with projects that involve moving or relocating infrastructure, utilities, or buildings to accommodate new construction or public works. Their responsibilities often include supporting the design and planning process, preparing technical documents, conducting site visits, and collaborating with senior engineers. The internship provides hands-on experience in relocation logistics, project management, and civil engineering principles, making it a valuable opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in the field.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a Civil Engineer Relocation Intern expect to be involved with during their internship?

As a Civil Engineer Relocation Intern, you'll typically assist with tasks related to infrastructure relocation, such as supporting the planning and coordination of moving utilities or roadways to accommodate construction projects. You may work alongside experienced engineers to conduct site assessments, draft plans, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Interns often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surveyors, project managers, and contractors, gaining hands-on exposure to project documentation, field visits, and client meetings. This role offers a valuable opportunity to understand the complexities of relocation projects and develop practical engineering skills in a real-world environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Civil Engineer Relocation Intern, and why are they important?

Job description

The Opportunity:ย

Are you interested in learning how quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and audit programs support the construction and operation of facilities at Canadian Natural? Join our Quality Assurance team and gain firsthand experience supporting the Building, Gas, and Plumbing (BGP) Quality Management Program (QMP) and Audit Program. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to construction compliance, quality management systems, internal and external audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

As a Quality Assurance Engineering Student, you will work alongside experienced engineers, technical specialists, inspectors, project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to support compliance with applicable regulations, technical specifications, and industry standards throughout the project lifecycle.

You will gain hands-on experience applying engineering codes, regulatory requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards while supporting compliance monitoring activities. This includes reviewing technical documentation, participating in audits and vendor assessments, and tracking and following up on audit and inspection findings. Through these experiences, you will develop a practical understanding of how quality assurance supports safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

Working with a diverse group of stakeholders across Canadian Natural's operations and projects, you will gain exposure to a wide range of facilities, construction activities, vendor management processes, and quality assurance practices. You will participate in compliance monitoring activities throughout the project lifecycle, gaining insight into design reviews, inspections, audit processes, and the follow-through required to support successful project execution. You will also contribute to program development initiatives by analyzing data, identifying trends in non-conformances and vendor performance, preparing guidance materials, supporting document management processes, and identifying opportunities to improve quality and compliance practices.ย

We value fresh perspectives and encourage students to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and contribute ideas that strengthen our processes and support a culture of continuous improvement.
