Job description

BB&E is an employee-owned, full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the Federal and private sectors.

Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Civil Engineer to join our team, supporting our NAVFAC MIDLANT projects in .Naval Station, Norfolk.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide independent,โ€ฏtimelyโ€ฏand professional civil engineering support, services and consultation for the planning, design,โ€ฏconstructionโ€ฏand maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, spaceโ€ฏutilizationโ€ฏand facilities development
  • Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements
  • Typical project support includes a broad spectrum of civil engineering projects/services for site developments, roads, airfields, water supply, sewer systems, drainage, dredging, solid waste facilities, shore protection, and other civil works to support new or existing facilities and encompass large industrial facilities,โ€ฏbuildingsโ€ฏor project sites, with diverse climatic, geographic, and environmental conditions
Key Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
  • Certification: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Civil Engineering is required

Knowledge

    • Broad professional knowledge and experience in the theories, concepts, principles and practices of civil engineering for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of a wide range of shore-based engineering projects, such as: site developments, roads, airfields, water supply, sewer systems, drainage, dredging, waste facilities, shore protection, and other large/industrial civil engineering projects
    • Knowledge of DOD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices related to civil engineering design including the International Building Code
    • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting civil engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR
    • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to civil engineering design
    • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
    • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate the findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts, and the ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies
  • Software: Proficiency using Whole Building Design Guide (WBGD) and AutoCAD, civil design/analysis software, and Specs-In-Tact technologies, Autodesk, Microsoft Office products, civil engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously

Requirements

  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on design experience, is required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone.
