The City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department is looking for a dynamic and skilled Senior Civil Engineer to join our team! In this role, you'll have the opportunity to lead and oversee professional engineering work, related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of essential storm, water, and sewer systems and projects.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll supervise and direct the work of professional engineering staff and consultants engaged in a variety ofcapital improvement and utility infrastructure projects. This position offers the opportunity to take on challenging and rewarding assignments that make a meaningful impact on the community while working in a collaborative and innovative environment.
We offer a flexible 9/80 work schedule consisting of nine-hour workdays Monday through Thursday, and eight hours every other Friday, with alternating Fridays off. Under general supervision, plans, organizes and directs the activities of either the Engineering Division staff engaged in professional engineering activities for a variety of traffic and/or capital improvement projects, and related work as assigned.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This class is a section head in the Engineering Division or Municipal Utilities Department with responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, conducting and reviewing the work of staff engaged in plan checking and development services and/or the preparation of plans, specifications, designs, estimates, schedules, inspections and project management activities for construction and maintenance programs. It is distinguished from the classes of Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer and Municipal Utilities Director which have overall responsibility for either Engineering Division activities or for the Municipal Utilities Department engineering activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field or possession of a valid California Engineer-In-Training Certificate AND five (5) years of responsible experience in design, development review or construction management of civil engineering projects, one (1) year of which was at a level equivalent to the City's class of Associate Engineer.
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid California Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer. Must possess a valid California Driver's License.

The Examination:
Applicants who qualify in terms of relevant work experience and education, that best fit the needs of the City, will be invited to move to the next step in the examination process. The examination process may include an oral examination or training and experience evaluation weighted 100%. However, the City reserves the right to utilize alternative testing methods if deemed necessary and/or appropriate. Candidates must receive a minimum passing score of 70%, as determined by the relative performance of all candidates in all portions of the examination. In the event of identical ratings, candidates' names will be arranged in order of application date/time, and, if the same, then arranged alphabetically.
