DESCRIPTION The City of Shoreview is looking for motivated, high-energy individuals to provide quality instruction for our in-house recreational learn-to-skate program. We provide paid training, clear lesson plans, and mentorship from day one. No prior instruction experience needed.
Our program is designed to teach first-time to intermediate level skaters in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment. We offer progression-based classes for skaters ranging ages 4 & up, which focus on developing and improving the fundamental skills of skating. Classes are 30 minutes in length and run on Saturdays between 8 - 9:40am.
Seasonal sessions are scheduled for seven weeks each throughout the fall (Oct-Dec) and winter (Jan-Feb) seasons. Instructors will also assist with the Mounds View Irondale Youth Hockey Association's Mini-Mavs program, which is a feeder program for their hockey association. Shoreview staff will help provide instruction, along with parent volunteers.
This program will run immediately after our in-house classes, with groups alternating every 30 minutes between 9:45-11:45am. Classes are held at the Ramsey County Shoreview Arena located across the street from the Shoreview Community Center Complex. DUTIES INCLUDE Teach ice skating techniques to various skill levels and ages Demonstrate skills, spot basic progressions, and guide children through lesson plans Plan and organize classes so the children remain active throughout the session Assess skills for readiness to move to the next level Communicate clearly and kindly with both the children and parents/guardians Set up, break down, and store equipment as needed Create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for participants Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Previous experience skating at an intermediate or advanced level Must be at least 15 years old CPR/First Aid/AED and concussion training (will be provided) Ability to lift and move 30 pounds Desired Qualifications: Previous experience teaching skating lessons Ability to provide instruction based on the ability and experience of the participants Accreditation from a nationally recognized skating certification organization (e.g
USFSA, Learn-to-Skate USA, etc) OTHER Hours October 2026 - February 2027: 2 - 4 hours/week Saturday mornings (hours may vary) *** FREE Community Center Membership. *** Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions: Work is performed primarily in an indoor ice arena. The position requires standing and skating for extended periods, demonstrating skating techniques, assisting participants on the ice, and lifting or moving equipment up to 30 pounds.
