Job description

THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE CITY OF CONROE STREETS DEPARTMENT

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician I performs ordinary, labor-intensive tasks commonly related to streets and drainage construction and maintenance. Also assists operator in any way necessary to complete the job. Must be able to work on-call duty. Must be available to respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. One year of experience in Public Works preferred.
  2. Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
  3. Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
  4. Must be able to work as many hours as required to complete jobs.
  5. Must be able to attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
  6. Must be able to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
  7. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  8. Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
  9. Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
  10. Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.
  11. Must be capable of reading, writing and communicating in English.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six months from hire date.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDES:

Shovels, pickaxes, various hand tools, air tools, boring tools, pumps, metal detectors, line locators, I-PAD.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

Ear and eye protection, boots, gloves, as well as any other safety equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
