Job description

Job Overview
The Investment Banking Analyst (VC Coverage) is an entry level position within Citigroup's Venture Capital Coverage Group. We sit at the intersection of venture capital, emerging technology, and Citigroup's global platform. The VC Coverage team partners with leading venture capital firms, their portfolio companies, and the founders building them. We connect the venture ecosystem to Citigroup's full capabilities - investment banking, capital markets, and a differentiated internal technology platform - to help companies scale from early growth through exit. Our objective is to be a high-value strategic partner to the venture community by delivering insight, connectivity, and execution.
This is not a traditional coverage Analyst role. The Analyst will operate at the center of a dynamic network spanning VCs, founders, and Citigroup's global franchise - synthesizing information, identifying opportunities, and driving connectivity across that network to inform strategic decisions for clients and internal teams. This role offers a front-row seat to innovation, with direct exposure to hundreds of venture-backed companies, emerging technology trends, senior bankers, and founders - all while leveraging the full weight of Citigroup's global platform to influence outcomes at scale.
Responsibilities:
  • Own the pipeline: maintain a real-time view of VC fund activity, portfolio company developments, and founder engagement, ensuring senior bankers are consistently prepared with actionable insights
  • Generate insight: analyze portfolio companies, sector trends, and emerging technologies to identify patterns and opportunities across the VC ecosystem that inform client discussions
  • Drive connectivity: facilitate high-value introductions between VC clients, founders, and Citi's broader platform, including its bankers, engineers, and venture teams, acting as a central node linking internal capabilities to external opportunities
  • Support execution: contribute to financing, M&A, and strategic advisory processes and prepare clear, high-quality materials for client meetings and pitches
  • Build the platform: improve internal workflows and reporting using data and AI tools, and help scale how the team tracks relationships, insights, and activity

Recommended Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of experience in investment banking, venture capital, growth equity, or technology
  • Strong interest in venture capital and the startup ecosystem
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into clear insights
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple relationships and workstreams simultaneously
  • Clear, concise communicator (written and verbal)
  • Intellectually curious, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment
  • FINRA 79, 63, SIE - current or ability to obtain upon hire

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
