Overview

The Washington, D.C. office of Lewis Brisbois, a full-service AmLaw 100 firm, are seeking a Director of Information Governance. The Director of Information Governance is responsible for establishing, leading, and continuously improving the Firm's enterprise-wide information governance strategy, policies, standards, and operations. This hands on role ensures the effective management, protection, retention, classification, accessibility, and disposition of the Firm's information assets throughout their lifecycle while supporting client service, regulatory compliance, risk management, cybersecurity, privacy, litigation readiness, and business objectives.

The Director of IG serves as a strategic leader and trusted advisor to Firm leadership, attorneys, risk management, information security, records management, eDiscovery, compliance, and technology teams. The position is responsible for maintaining governance frameworks that protect confidential client information and ensure compliance with legal, ethical, regulatory, and client requirements.

Responsibilities

The following list of functions is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned in addition to those listed. The items listed are considered daily functions associated with this position. The Director of IG will develop and execute the Firm's enterprise Information Governance strategy and roadmap by establishing governance frameworks for records management, data governance, information lifecycle management, retention, disposition, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

An essential function of this role is to lead the modernization of information governance practices in support of digital transformation initiatives, advise Firm leadership on information-related risks and governance best practices and drive the adoption of governance standards across all offices and business units.

Qualified candidates will have :

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree in Information Management, Information Governance, Records Management, Business Administration, Law, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Information Governance, Records Management, Data Governance, Compliance, eDiscovery, Risk Management, or Legal Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing governance or compliance programs.
  • Significant experience within a large law firm, professional services organization, or highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated success implementing enterprise governance frameworks and technology-enabled governance solutions.
  • Certifications related to Information Governance strongly Preferred:
    • Information Governance Professional (IGP)
    • Certified Records Manager (CRM)
    • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • Certified Information Governance Officer (CIGO) or equivalent credential
