Cisco Network Engineer

This role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the LAN and WAN network services. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Cisco Network Engineer with strong network design, deployment, network operations, device support, and Tier II troubleshooting experience. Must have hands-on experience with the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco Infrastructures. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication systems. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Knowledge, Skills, and Education: Associate’s Degree Required BA/BS Computer Science or related degree is highly desirable Certifications: CCNP Required ITIL is a plus. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preference

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning Collaborate with IT management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs. Own responsibility for the delivery of assigned projects. Drive results Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery. Understand and leverage the ITIL framework for proven processes and procedures within the organization, while balancing the need for change and the need for stability through defined SOPs.

Acquisition & Deployment Design and deploy company LANs and wireless networks, including appliances, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry. Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.

Operational Management Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Ensure network connectivity is available throughout the enterprise Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Assess LAN/WAN network utilization through the use of monitoring tools. Develop and communicate recommendations for addressing capacity needs. Resolve business problems using established processes, procedures, and standards Comprehensive systems analysis, network administration, and project management.

Knowledge & Experience Hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP); Quality of Service and VLAN configurations; Layer 3 switching, including IP multicast; troubleshooting experience over wide area networks. In-depth understanding of various network services (Trunking, T1/DS1, MPLS, NAT, DHCP, DNS, NTP, HSRP/VRRP.) Experience with Cisco router and switch configuration (familiarity with the following hardware types: 29/39xx, ISR 4xxx routers and 29xx, 38xx, 45xx, 68xx, 7xxx Catalyst switches, Nexus). Good understanding of Cisco wireless architecture, design, implementation, and administration. Good understanding of Radius and/or TACACS. Experience with networking tools such as Infoblox NetMRI, Solarwinds, and Cisco Prime Infrastructure. Experience working with enterprise ticketing systems (Service Now) Advanced skills in overall network administration, network installation, configurations, migrations, and problem resolution Experience working on a variety of network equipment types in a global environment. Experience working in an in-house and outsourced environment. Provide mentoring for engineering team members
