Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assists the nursing and receptionist staff with welcoming, rooming and assisting patients with their health care needs. Works under the supervision of the nurse, medical assistant, provider, and leadership for hospital patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the nurse with maintaining patients’ physical and emotional comfort and hygiene.
  • Assists the nurse with accurate and timely documentation in the EMR record
    • Intake and Output
    • Vital Signs
    • Skin integrity (turns, repositioning, peri care)
    • Patients’ status
    • Hourly rounding
    • Document and report any abnormal values or patient or family concerns
  • Offer a clean and supportive patient environment by maintaining cleanliness of patient rooms and unit as a whole.
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment efficiently and cost effectively. Assure all chargeable items are accurately charged to patients account. Maintains accurate and fiscally responsible count of supplies needed for the department. Reports concern with inventory immediately to ensure charges are not being missed.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order and reporting malfunctions to charge nurse or Director
  • Collaborate with nursing team to ensure that hourly rounding and needed patient intervention are performed, per scope of practice, on all bedded patients.
  • Assist the nurse with admissions, dismissals and transfers of patients
  • Performs duties delegated by the assigned nurse, Charge Nurse or Director. Effectively carries out delegated duties and responsibilities within scope of practice.
  • Communicate concerns, needs and any other work-related issues utilizing the Charge Nurse or Director.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and excel in conveying knowledge to others during the orientation process
  • May be required to train and float to other nursing departments.
  • Continual surveillance and proactive participation in ongoing Infection Prevention and Control measures in accordance with policies located in the Infection Control Manual.
  • Prioritize and maintain stewardship of Amberwell Culture Competencies
  • Other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

Additional Functions for OB PCT:

  • Assist nurse by performing OB ward clerk duties. Including, but not limited to, putting charts together, answering phone, paging doctors and other on call staff, and delivering papers to different department.
  • Maintains sterile technique when setting up delivery table and circumcision table.
  • Assist in the teaching of postpartum mothers, including, but not limited to bath demonstrations, breastfeeding assistance and circumcision care.
  • Assists physician with circumcision procedures as needed.
  • Assist nurse to ensure that hearing screening is completed prior to discharge of the newborn.
  • Completes restocking checklists and completes monthly outdates
  • Completes the OB nurse aide task checklist each shift.
  • Works to ensure all weekly and monthly OB nurse aide tasks get completed.
  • Monitors supplies maintain PAR level and orders supplies as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:
    • Minimum Required Education: Must be at least 16 years of age.  High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
    • Certifications:  BLS required, but may be earned during employment. 
      • Certified Nurse Aide certification preferred
      • NRP Essentials RQI for PCT in OB Only
