Job Summary:
The Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) serves as a trusted technology advisor for a portfolio of clients, helping organizations align their technology investments with business goals, operational priorities, and long-term growth strategies.
This role is responsible for building strategic IT roadmaps, leading executive business reviews, identifying technology and cybersecurity risks, and guiding customers through digital transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with executive-level communication skills and a consultative mindset that drives business value and long-term customer relationships.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary strategic technology advisor for assigned client accounts, building trusted long-term relationships with executive stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain multi-year IT roadmaps aligned with client business objectives, operational goals, budgets, and growth initiatives
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), executive presentations, and strategic planning discussions with client leadership teams
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes, risk mitigation strategies, and ROI-driven recommendations
  • Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure performance, cybersecurity posture, operational efficiency, scalability, and end-user experience
  • Assess client environments to identify technology gaps, risks, compliance concerns, and modernization opportunities
  • Partner with Sales and Account Management teams to identify growth opportunities and expand client technology solutions and services
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery, Engineering, and Support teams to ensure successful implementation of strategic initiatives and customer recommendations
  • Monitor and review KPIs related to infrastructure health, cybersecurity, customer satisfaction, operational performance, and technology utilization
  • Guide clients through digital transformation initiatives including cloud migration, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity improvements, and business continuity planning
  • Recommend technology standards, lifecycle planning, budgeting strategies, and best practices across customer environments
  • Assist clients in prioritizing IT investments and aligning technology strategy with financial and operational objectives
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, cybersecurity threats, industry trends, and evolving best practices to provide proactive guidance to clients
  • Support documentation efforts including strategic roadmaps, technology assessments, risk analyses, and executive reporting
  • Serve as a strategic escalation point for customer concerns and technology planning discussions

Required Skills / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered
  • 7+ years of experience in IT leadership, managed services, consulting, systems engineering, or technology strategy roles
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), cybersecurity, and modern workplace technologies
  • Proven experience conducting executive-level presentations, business reviews, and strategic client engagements
  • Strong understanding of business technology planning, budgeting, operational alignment, and risk management
  • Ability to align IT strategy with client business objectives and organizational growth initiatives
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Strong consultative mindset with the ability to uncover business challenges and recommend strategic solutions
  • Experience working within managed services, MSP, or IT services provider environments strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, compliance standards, and risk management best practices including HIPAA, SOC 2, and related standards preferred
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and build credibility with technical teams, executives, and business leaders
  • Experience developing technology standards, lifecycle strategies, and IT governance initiatives preferred
  • Relevant certifications such as ITIL, CISSP, Microsoft Azure, AWS, or related technology certifications preferred
