Job description

Summary

As a Comfort Advisor – Generator Sales, you will serve as the primary point of contact for residential and commercial customers evaluating standby and portable generator solutions. The CA maintains expert knowledge of generator systems, transfer switches, electrical service requirements, and related equipment, and drives maximum profitability through in-home and on-site consultative sales. The CA develops detailed proposals — including site layout and CAD-assisted load drawings — and coordinates with installation crews, electrical teams, and permitting authorities to ensure a seamless customer experience from first visit through commissioning.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
In-Home Sales & Estimating
  • Conduct warm in-home and on-site consultations to assess customer power needs, existing electrical infrastructure, and optimal generator placement.
  • Perform load calculations and develop site-specific proposals, including basic CAD drawings or hand-drafted site layouts depicting generator placement, transfer switch location, fuel source routing (natural gas/propane), and clearance requirements per NEC and local AHJ standards.
  • Sales of residential and light commercial standby generator systems (Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Cummins/Onan, or equivalent).
  • Sales of portable and inverter-type generators for residential and small commercial applications.
  • Sales of automatic transfer switches (ATS), manual transfer switches, load management modules, and whole-home surge protection.
  • Sales of annual service agreements, preventive maintenance plans, and extended warranty/membership packages.
ServiceTitan – Estimating, Presentation & Selling
  • Build and present all estimates within ServiceTitan using the company pricebook — including Good/Better/Best option configurations — to deliver a consistent, professional in-home sales experience.
  • Leverage ServiceTitan's visual presentation tools to walk customers through equipment options, pricing tiers, financing offers, and service agreement bundles at the point of sale.
  • Obtain customer signature and collect payment or financing authorization within ServiceTitan before leaving the job site.
  • Maintain accurate records of all estimates, proposals, signed contracts, and installation schedules within ServiceTitan.
  • Monitor personal sales performance within ServiceTitan reporting — including estimate volume, close rate, average ticket, and option attachment rate — and come prepared to review metrics in weekly sales huddles.
Operations & Coordination
  • Coordinate equipment ordering, lead time management, and pre-installation staging with operations and warehouse teams.
  • Collaborate with the electrical team and installation crews on job scope, permitting, and utility notification requirements.
  • Stay current on local building codes, NEC requirements, manufacturer installation guidelines, and utility interconnection rules.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer homes, commercial sites, and community events.
  • Participate in ongoing product training, manufacturer certification programs, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Responsible for company-provided vehicle, gas card, cell phone, tablet, and estimating/CAD tools.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in generator sales, generator service/installation, or a closely related electrical or power generation field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standby generator systems, automatic transfer switches, load calculations, and fuel delivery systems (natural gas and LP).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, single-line drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience producing or reviewing site layout drawings or CAD-assisted plans (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Nearmap, or similar tools preferred).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong consultative sales skills with a track record of in-home or on-site closing performance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to assess complex electrical and structural site conditions independently.
  • Strong customer communication skills — able to clearly explain technical solutions to non-technical homeowners and facility managers.
  • Proficiency in ServiceTitan (or ability to achieve proficiency within 30 days) — specifically estimate building, Good/Better/Best presentation, pricebook navigation, financing integration, and job closeout.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes, AHJ requirements, and utility coordination a plus.
  • Generac, Kohler, or equivalent manufacturer sales/product certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
