Job description

Crane Operator

The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads in support of dredging activities. Depresses crane controls to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.

Essential Functions (This is not all-inclusive):

  • Upholds the Company's commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
  • Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
  • Interprets load charts and plans all lifts
  • Determines safe lift parameters and follows established procedures
  • Changes oil and filters, fuels, lubricates gears and bearings
  • Performs daily safety inspection of crane, barge, associated equipment, wire rope, hooks, slings, and rigging for wear, abrasions, and damage
  • Documents in writing every 30 days that a complete inspection of the crane has been performed
  • Operates crane according to hand signals from a qualified signal person
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Must be NCCCO, NCCER or CIC certified for the type of crane being operated, must have LBC certification
  • Three (3) years plus experience in operating cranes, dredging experience preferred
  • Must successfully complete a physical exam every two years
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
  • Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment screening (observed drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Must be eligible to work in the US; this position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be considered.

Schedule and Compensation:

  • Weekly pay, one week in arrears
  • Four weeks on, with two week off (28/14). Depending on the company's specific needs, there is an opportunity to work additional weeks.
  • Standard work hours are typically 12 hours daily; however, adjustments may be made depending on the operational requirements.
  • This is an FLSA, Non-Exempt position, meaning any hours worked over 40 in the same work week will be compensated as overtime.
