What you'll be doing
The Business Analyst is a highly skilled and motivated individual responsible for working with stakeholders across the organization as part of a program/project team to successfully develop/design/configure and implement a new system or process. This is accomplished by the Business Analyst partnering with business end users, technical teams, vendors, and other stakeholders gathering and documenting business requirements, documenting current and future process flows, creating use cases and test plans, and planning and managing the user acceptance testing effort for that new system or process. The Business Analyst may lead a team of Business Analysts in their role on a project/program to fulfill some of the key accountabilities below. The Business Analyst works closely with the Program/Project Manager and is expected to use independent judgement and exhibit autonomy when performing daily tasks, proactively address problems and issues within their scope of responsibility as well as identify areas for possible improvements.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you'll be on-site in our Chicago, IL office anywhere between one to three days a week.
How you'll succeed
Requirements Gathering
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including business users, project managers, and developers to gather and document detailed business requirements
  • Conduct interviews, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to elicit requirements, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of business needs
  • Analyze and validate requirements, ensuring they are feasible and aligned with project objectives
  • Applies advanced understanding of the business and technology
  • Analyzes policy, program implementation, and customization requirements to meet client needs and expectations

Documentation of Process Flows
  • Create clear and concise process flow diagrams, mapping out current and future state processes
  • Identify and manage changes to key and non-key controls in project/program scope
  • Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to validate process flows and ensure accurate representation of business operations

Test Planning and Management
  • Develop comprehensive test plans with test objectives and test cases (including negative test scenarios) based on gathered requirements
  • Coordinate with technology development teams to ensure appropriate test environments are set up and ready for testing activities
  • Execute and manage test activities including test execution, defect management, and reporting
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring alignment with business requirements

Project Support
  • Work closely with program/project manager(s), providing support throughout each project lifecycle phase
  • Assist in project planning, tracking progress, and managing project documentation
  • Identifies and tracks problems - monitors delivery of mitigation
  • Proactively addresses problems within the scope of responsibility; escalates items beyond the scope
  • Contribute to project risk and issue management
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project delivery
  • Creation and distribution of meeting meetings for meetings you lead

Project Planning and Monitoring for BA-related Activities
  • Partner with program/project Manager(s) in developing detailed project plans including timelines, milestones, and resource allocations
  • Create a comprehensive plan for business analysis for duration of the project
  • Monitor project progress against established plans, identify potential risks or issues, and propose mitigation strategies
  • Uses independent judgment and resourcefulness to determine methods and approaches to work
  • Ability to understand and represent issues accurately/clearly to drive efficient decision making

Stakeholder Management for BA-related Activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business units, functional groups, IT departments, and external vendors to ensure clear communication and coordination throughout the project
  • Liaise with internal and external sources; acts as an integrator across all disciplines
  • Apply advanced understanding of the business and technology
  • Facilitate regular meetings, workshops, and presentations to update stakeholders on activity status, and risk and issue resolution

Documentation and Reporting
  • Create comprehensive project documentation, including business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, and process flows
  • Develop and maintain project artifacts, such as the business requirements document (BRD), test plan, and process flows
  • Assist the program/project manager(s) in preparing status reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate activity status, risk, and issues to senior management and PMO as requested

Process Improvement
  • Continuously evaluate and improve project management methodologies, tools, and templates to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness
  • Identify areas for process optimization and contribute to the development on best practices within the PMO
  • Provide recommendations for streamlining workflows and implementing standardized project management practices
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve productivity, process and tools

Leadership
  • Display deep business perspective; comprehensive knowledge across a broad scope of areas across multiple lines of business and/or legal entities within the US Region

Who you are
  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst in a Waterfall or Agile project management environment preferably within the banking or financial services industry
  • Minimum 8 years experiences as a Business Analyst, preferably at a financial institution
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies
  • Skilled in requirements gathering techniques, including interviews, workshops, and documentation analysis
  • Skilled in process flowcharting techniques, including the ability to create clear and detailed process flow diagrams using industry standard tools
  • Experience leading the test planning and management process including test plan development, test case creation, traceability documentation that all business requirements have been met, coordination of test case execution and defect management
  • Expert communication and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively engaged with stakeholders at all levels
  • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable test cases, project tasks, and deliverables
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Visio
  • College degree required
  • Familiarity with banking operations, banking regulations, and financial systems is preferred
  • Experience leading a team of BAs is a plus
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, or other industry-standard test management tools is a plus
  • Professional certification, such as CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) is a plus

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $75,000 - $105,000K for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
