Job Summary

Within the Office of Careers, Internships, and Achievement (CIA) in Academic Affairs, the strategist, service learning supports the development, implementation, and assessment of high-impact service-learning experiences that advance Lindenwood University's mission of Real Experience, Real Success. The strategist builds and sustains community partnerships, collaborates with faculty to integrate experiential learning into the curriculum, and supports key programs, including the Federal Work-Study Community Service Program and the Community Service Honors Designation. This position also cross-trains across CIA's full range of services, including career coaching, internship advising, and study abroad, to provide holistic and integrated support to students.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Supports the Federal Work Study Community Service program including identifying and vetting community partner organizations, recruiting and hiring qualified student participants, and managing timecards
  • Integrates Federal Work Study participants into the Community Service Honors Designation program
  • Supports the CIA in developing processes for integrating high-impact practices into the curriculum; assesses risk/liability of off-campus learning experiences
  • Creates and supports student/faculty recognition procedures for the CIA including the Community Service Honors Designation in collaboration with Student Involvement and Academic Services
  • Provides career coaching including resume review, interview preparation, and job search strategies
  • Assists students with internship searches and connecting with employer opportunities
  • Supports study abroad advising including program selection, application processes, and relevant course/program equivalencies
  • Assists with First Destination Survey data collection and other assessment initiatives
  • Supports career fairs, networking events, employer information sessions, and other CIA programming as needed

Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University's values
  • Intentionally acts with empathy to create a welcoming, inclusive environment that respects diverse perspectives and backgrounds
  • Serves as contact person for students, faculty, and partners needing support with experiential learning opportunities

Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Develops and sustains mutually beneficial partnerships with non-profit, governmental, and community-based organizations to support service learning, internships, and other experiential opportunities; represents the university in local and regional service-learning networks to identify and cultivate new community connections
  • Collaborates with faculty, the Lindenwood Learning Academy, campus offices, and community organizations to design and implement service-learning experiences in courses and co-curricular programs; provides training and professional development on service-learning pedagogy and best practices
  • Collaborates with partners in Academic Affairs to assist faculty and staff in gathering data for the assessment of experiential learning outcomes
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with external constituents including employers, community partners, and study abroad providers
  • Uses social media to promote the work of faculty, students, employers, and community partners
  • Collaborates with colleagues across multiple divisions, including Student Involvement, the Learning Academy, Advancement and Communications, and Operations
  • Collaborates with CIA colleagues to develop integrated programming connecting multiple high-impact practices
  • Job may require other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of community engagement experience in higher education or a community-based agency preferred
