Ci Manager information

What is a CI manager?

CI Managers, or Continuous Improvement Managers, are professionals responsible for identifying areas of improvement within an organization's processes, products, or services. They use various methodologies, such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen, to streamline operations, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency. CI Managers work closely with different teams to implement changes, monitor results, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Their goal is to help the organization achieve better performance and maintain a competitive edge.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a CI manager?

To excel as a CI (Continuous Improvement) Manager, a strong background in process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and experience in change management is essential, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree and certifications like Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Familiarity with process mapping tools, data analytics software, and project management systems is typically required. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding CI Managers apart by enabling them to inspire teams and drive organizational change. These skills and qualifications are vital for successfully identifying inefficiencies, implementing sustainable improvements, and achieving measurable business results.

How does a CI manager collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure smooth software delivery?

A CI Manager plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between development and operations teams by overseeing the continuous integration process. They coordinate closely with developers to implement automated build and test pipelines, ensuring that code changes are integrated and validated efficiently. Additionally, they work with operations teams to streamline deployment workflows, troubleshoot integration issues, and maintain infrastructure for automation tools. Regular communication and joint problem-solving are crucial to anticipate bottlenecks and maintain delivery velocity.

OVERVIEW
Experience operational excellence. Real investment in personal and professional development. And an ability to make real and beneficial change. The Distribution Centers at Ulta Beauty are a place where lived values meet next-generation advancements to create competitive advantage few can match.
If you want to learn in a supportive and ever-evolving environment. If you value managers who aren't afraid to lead by rolling up their sleeves. If you seek stability, growth opportunities and the rewards that come with industry leadership, apply your talents and passions in ways that take us to even greater heights.
THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
The Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) Manager leads the support and optimization of warehouse management systems across multiple Distribution Centers (DCs), Fulfillment Centers (FFCs), and Market Fulfillment Centers (MFCs). This role plays a critical part in enabling Supply Chain Operations to scale effectively, optimize processes, and integrate new technologies through enterprise initiatives and continuous improvement (CI) projects.
Reporting to the Director of Warehouse Management Systems, the manager directly oversees a team of on-site Warehouse Management Systems Analysts and serves as the primary liaison between each facility and the corporate systems team. The role ensures consistent system performance, alignment to best practices, and compliance with SOX controls, while also providing hands-on functional and technical support to users.
As a key cross-functional leader, the Warehouse Management Systems Manager partners closely with DC leadership, IT, and other supply chain teams to drive systemic improvements, support new implementations, and lead process standardization efforts. The role has decision-making authority related to system configurations, issue resolution, and operational support strategies-contributing directly to network performance, user adoption, and long-term business growth.
YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:
  • Lead and manage the Warehouse Management Systems team across multiple DCs, FFCs, and MFCs, ensuring consistent performance, support coverage, and alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Provide daily functional and technical guidance to team members and operations partners.
  • Serve as a key member of each facility's leadership team and act as the primary liaison between site operations and the corporate Supply Chain Systems group.
  • Act independently and cross-functionally to address needs, resolve issues, and support site-level execution.
  • Own all site-specific configurations of warehouse management systems and ancillary applications, ensuring alignment with operational requirements, system standards, and network-wide best practices.
  • Oversee systemic issue triage and resolution processes, including managing escalation paths, root cause analysis, and coordination with the Director of Warehouse Management Systems Manager, IT, and vendor partners as needed.
  • Drive and support enterprise initiatives and CI projects aimed at scaling operations, optimizing system functionality, and integrating new technologies.
  • Partner with Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Operations, and corporate stakeholders to implement solutions effectively.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing, collaborative team culture rooted in accountability, inclusion, and continuous learning.
  • Actively coach, mentor, and support the professional growth of team members to strengthen capabilities and drive long-term performance.
  • Promote a positive, resilient work environment that encourages innovation, engagement, and cross-functional alignment. Role model leadership behaviors that contribute to a culture of trust, excellence, and shared success.
  • Own and monitor inventory synchronization processes across applicable sites, ensuring accuracy between system records and physical inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Industrial Engineering team on Labor Management System (LMS) deployments and ongoing support, ensuring system readiness and operational alignment.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through data analysis and reporting; use system metrics to inform decision-making and recommend enhancements.
  • Write and execute SQL or other database queries to troubleshoot issues, validate data, and generate custom reports for site and enterprise use.
  • Provide onboarding and system training for new users and site leaders; create and maintain documentation, knowledge bases, and process guides.
  • Participate in system and process testing (UAT), pilots, and special projects including new site launches, technology integrations, and WMS upgrades.
  • Represent the Warehouse Management Systems team in facility meetings, corporate working groups, and planning sessions with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Serve as backup support for other Warehouse Management Systems Managers or peer functions during high-demand periods or transitions.
  • Align team efforts with enterprise goals by maintaining strong cross-functional partnerships and operational awareness.
  • Maintain a focus on leadership development and systems expertise to support career growth toward potential Senior Manager or Director-level roles.
THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
