Ravines EdgeThe Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for coordinating all business financials for United Church Homes (UCH).

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Guide junior accountants and other staff by answering questions and coordinating information relating to Finance and Accounting
  • Comply with all federal, state and local protocols including legal requirements, and interpret new and existing legislation; maintain a strong understanding of GAAP
  • Create and analyze liability, asset, and capital accounts by compiling data and required documentation
  • Generate, review, analyze and communicate monthly financial statements and other reports to be used by management for analyzing financial information
  • Contribute to the annual operating budgeting process through analysis and review of annual operating budget proposal
  • Use judgment and strong professional skills to determine the appropriate procedures for preparation of accounting records, research of transactions and reporting
  • Document accounting transactions using internal and external policies and procedures
  • Review contracts, orders and vouchers for accuracy based on established policies and procedures
  • Apply the financial policies and procedures of the company and bring inconsistencies or problems to the attention of management
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close
  • Respond to inquiries from the CFO or other executive management regarding financial results or special reporting requests
  • Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendations to operational issues
  • Work with retained CPA firms to ensure clean and timely year end audits
  • Maintains accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts and defining accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Collaborate with other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Support CFO and Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required

Skills & Abilities

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school): Required
  • Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required
  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; Must be proficient in using a computer and general office equipment
  • Certifications & Licenses: Must obtain and maintain mandatory, state, federal requirements and certifications for practice or occupation, as needed
