Job description

Cabinet & Trim Carpenter — Sun Design Remodeling Specialists

Pay: $37–$46/hour, based on experience

Full-time | Senior-level | Monday–Friday, steady year-round work

Sun Design has been remodeling homes across Northern Virginia since 1988 — 38 years and still growing. We're an award-winning design-build firm (NARI, Chrysalis, Inc. 5000) known for high-end residential work, and we're looking for an experienced Cabinet & Trim Carpenter to join our Production team.

This is a finish-carpentry role for someone who's genuinely good with their hands and their eyes — someone who can hang a run of cabinets dead level on the first try, cut crown that closes tight in an out-of-square corner, and make a client's kitchen look like it belongs in a magazine.

What You'll Do :

  • Install all types of cabinetry — base, wall, vanity, utility, oven, built-ins, stacks, and more
  • Install toe kicks, fillers, and crown molding of various styles; adjust doors, level, shim, and install hardware with precision
  • Complete full kitchen and bath installations as directed by the Project Manager or Lead Carpenter
  • Assist with job walk-throughs, material take-offs, and scheduling deliveries
  • Verify material deliveries for accuracy before signing off
  • Read layouts and drawings, and problem-solve fit issues on the fly
  • Take on other carpentry work as needed — light framing, flooring, drywall, demo
  • Coordinate with other trades on-site so everyone's work stays on schedule
  • Help train and mentor other carpenters on the crew
  • Keep jobsites clean, organized, and safe
  • Log project photos and daily updates in our project management software (BuilderTrend)

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of trim carpentry experience
  • 5+ years of remodeling experience
  • 5+ years of cabinet installation experience
  • Own tools and know how to use them — power tools and hand, and know which one the job calls for
  • Sharp eye for detail — level, plumb, and square aren't optional
  • Strong work ethic; honest, punctual, and dependable
  • Excellent customer service — comfortable working in occupied, high-end homes
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a crew
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to jobsites across VA, MD & DC

Why Cabinet & Trim Carpenters Choose Sun Design:

We're guided by six core values: Truth, Fun, Charity, Exceptional Experience, Financial Wisdom, and Growth of the Individual. In practice, that means:

  • Competitive pay based on skills and experience ($37–$46/hr)
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance — for you and your family
  • Company-matched 401(k)
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and time off
  • Paid parental leave (maternity and paternity)
  • Bonus opportunities
  • Real training through Sun Design University — we invest in your skills
  • Open-book financials — see how the business actually runs
  • A supportive, team-first culture — not a revolving door of temp crews
  • Real room to grow — take on more complex builds and mentor others as you advance

We've been remodeling homes in the DMV for almost four decades because we do it right.
