Job description

The Cleveland Clinic Center for Spine and Pain Medicine within the Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute is seeking a board-certified Psychiatrist to help co-lead an innovative longitudinal chronic pain management program grounded in a collaborative care and chronic pain medical home model.

This unique clinical model integrates psychiatry, pain medicine, spine medicine, behavioral medicine, rehabilitation, and care coordination into a longitudinal, team-based approach for patients with persistent and complex chronic pain conditions. The position offers the opportunity to practice at the intersection of psychiatry, pain medicine, and systems-based care redesign within one of the nation's leading multidisciplinary pain programs.

The psychiatrist will partner closely with colleagues across primary care, spine and pain medicine, behavioral health, rehabilitation, and nursing to provide integrated care for patients with overlapping psychiatric, neurological, and pain-related comorbidities. In addition to direct clinical care, the role includes opportunities for interprofessional teaching, trainee supervision, quality improvement, and program development within a growing model of collaborative chronic pain care.

The position also interfaces with the Center for Spine and Pain Medicine's section of Comprehensive Pain Recovery (CPR). The CPR program includes:

  • Functional restoration and interdisciplinary rehabilitation programs
  • Ketamine infusion therapy services
  • Outpatient pain psychiatry and behavioral pain management
  • Interventional pain services
  • Integrated rehabilitation and psychological services

The interdisciplinary team includes pain medicine physicians, psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, clinical psychologists, counselors, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, and dedicated administrative support staff working collaboratively within a highly integrated care environment.

The ideal candidate will have completed residency training in adult psychiatry with additional fellowship training or demonstrated expertise in addiction psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, pain medicine, or related disciplines. Candidates should possess experience caring for medically and psychiatrically complex patients with high levels of acuity, including those with chronic pain, substance use disorders, functional neurological symptoms, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and overlapping neurological comorbidities.

Clinical responsibilities may include:

  • Longitudinal outpatient psychiatric management within the chronic pain medical home
  • Psychopharmacologic management for patients with chronic pain and psychiatric comorbidity
  • Consultation within multidisciplinary pain clinics
  • Inpatient consultation on medical and surgical services
  • Participation in ketamine infusion therapy services
  • Collaborative treatment planning with interdisciplinary teams

This position offers the opportunity to help shape and expand a nationally distinctive model of integrated chronic pain care emphasizing longitudinal engagement, collaborative treatment planning, functional recovery, and whole-person care.

Compensation and Benefits:
This dynamic position offers a highly competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including:
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Comprehensive disability and life insurance benefits
  • Medical malpractice and tail coverage
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, sick leave, and CME support
  • Competitive retirement plans with employer contribution
  • Faculty appointment through the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine commensurate with experience
