Job description

Position Summary: The Nursery Aide is responsible to provide nurturing, age-appropriate care for children ages 0 - 5 and for implementing all aspects of nursery programming and operations. This role must ensure that all nursery operations follow The Salvation Army's standards as well as federal, state, and local guidelines. Above all, this position supports and reflects the mission of The Salvation Army by nurturing children in an atmosphere of compassion and faith.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, orderly, structured environment for infants and preschool children in the nursery.
  • Supervise children during all activities in the nursery
  • Implement programs for children in the nursery including weekly Christian curriculum, structured entertainment and food needs
  • Supervise the volunteers that are assigned to assist
  • Meet with supervisor weekly to review nursery operations
  • Check in and out the children so they are safely returned to their appropriate parents or guardians
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a manner that fosters good communication and relationships with clients, co-workers and supervisors. This includes such actions as conflict resolution, courteousness, respect for others' property and person, and professional and appropriate communication
  • Ensure the nursery space is cleaned at the end of each shift
  • Document injuries or issues as they arise, properly informing parents and Corps Officers
  • Maintain confidentiality and enforce Safe From Harm guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma / GED; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Experience working with children and youth activities is desirable

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ability to interact with different personality types
  • Good communication skills, able to read and write proficiently
  • Self-starter and perform well with minimum supervision

Computer Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
  • Basic knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aide
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
