Job description

Compensation:

$25 - $29 DOE

OVERVIEW:

Provide support to the Music & Worship arts department. Plans, develops and monitors all Salvation Army creative arts education programs and activities at assigned corps; researches new ways of involving the total Salvation Army congregation in active worship; explores innovative models of creative worship outside of traditional Salvation Army instrumental and vocal music; looks for ways to incorporate drama, interpretive dance, Christian contemporary music and visual media; maintains and develops a Divisional resource library of alternative programming ideas; develops and organizes pilot programs in the creative arts. The worship arts assistant is also responsible for organizing and leading the Divisional Worship Arts Ensemble(s).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To assist the Divisional Music & Worship arts department with the introduction, development and promotion of worship arts programming.
  2. Provides field service to corps as approved by the Program Secretary; promotes and encourages the development of creative arts leadership through correspondence and visitation.
  3. Researches, creates, and implements various avenues of the Christian Arts as they pertain to the Salvation Army’s mission of proclaiming the gospel message through worship, evangelism, service and discipleship.
  4. Provides counsel and assistance to corps officers and staff in advancing the interests of gospel arts programming.
  5. Leads the development and implementation of innovative worship models beyond traditional Salvation Army music (including drama, interpretive dance, contemporary Christian music, and visual media), while serving as a consultant on alternative worship resources and maintaining a comprehensive divisional library to support creative programming for worship and evangelism.
  6. Follow PTM guidelines
  7. Assist in cultivating future leaders of Music & Worship Arts at the corps level.
  8. Divisional Worship Arts Ensemble(s):
    • Responsible for leadership of the ensemble(s).
    • Responsible for encouragement and training of personnel.
    • Responsible for email / snail mail contact with group.
    • Responsible for identifying uniform/costume needs.
  9. Mentors undeveloped performance talent in all areas of the worship arts.
  10. Develops, implements and monitors standards and guidelines for drama / dance content and apparel for worship arts performing organizations.
  11. To assist the Music & Worship Arts Department in preparation for Encore, Music & Arts Camp, and other Divisional sponsored events.
  12. Must be prepared to travel.
  13. May be requested and sent, at the discretion of the Divisional Commander and Divisional Program Secretary, to serve as a clinician and instructor at the Western Music Institute, divisional music and creative ministry camps, and other Salvation Army music and arts camps as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Previous experience in developing or implementing gospel arts programming.
  • Must be an active, uniformed Salvationist

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Possess a knowledge of traditional and contemporary music styles.
  • Ability to travel as requested.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to keep information confidential.
  • Skills in performing music and/or drama and/or dance.
  • Proficiencies in social media posts and editing software such as CapCut
