Job description

St. Mark Parish, Catonsville, seeks candidates for a part-time Music Coordinator. The Music Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Pastor and parish musicians and is responsible for choosing liturgically appropriate music for the traditional music Masses. The weekly hours for this position are six.
The Coordinator of Liturgical Music is a member of the Parish staff with professional preparations and pastoral sensitivity to the celebration of Catholic liturgy and ritual and the importance of music to the liturgy. In conjunction with the Pastor, they provide leadership in the planning, execution and celebration of all Parish liturgies including music leadership by directing, planning, and coordinating the parish music programs.
Essential Functions
  • Choosing liturgically appropriate music for the traditional music Masses
  • Communicating music selections and other liturgical information to musicians in coordination with the Pastor, Director of Liturgy and the parish office
  • Being the Cantor for Masses as scheduled
  • Establishes and directs the children's choir, conducting weekly one-hour rehearsals and monthly children's choir Masses including Christmas and Easter
  • Serve as substitute adult Choir Director when needed
  • Music is to be coordinated for special liturgies and other parish events including but not limited to Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas, Confirmation, First Eucharist, penance services and Pentecost novena

Position Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic willing to engage in the faith life of our parish.
  • Degree in Liturgy, Liturgical Music, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the liturgical norms of the Catholic Church and maintaining as part of the music ministry of the Church a respectful and prayerful presence since music and worship are tied to the spiritual life of the parish.
  • Experience as a liturgical musician in organ, piano, vocal and choral conducting in a Catholic parish.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, musicians and parishioners.
  • Availability to cantor at weekend Masses as needed.

Range: $20.00 - $21.00, Hourly
