This role is a "dream job" for experienced mechanics looking to transition into a desk job.

$18.50/hr.

HOURS: 6am - 3pm, Mon-Fri.

Elmer Chocolate is the oldest family-owned chocolate company in the USA. Our factory in Ponchatoula is the 2nd-largest manufacturer of Valentine boxed chocolate in North America. Our automated robotic machinery and manufacturing assembly lines require continual maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

Three (3) Main Responsibilities:

1) Drive the company vehicle to pick up parts around town.

2) Train as the successor to the current Stockroom Clerk who orders and maintains our library of replacement parts.

3) Perform light duty tray maintenance - Boxes of chocolate have various sizes/shapes of cardboard lids and bases-from small Valentine hearts to large rectangular giftboxes. These lids and bases are fed into robotic machinery with a metal tray (similar to a die cut template or mould). The metal tray is protected with silicon glass-cloth mats/pads to prevent wear. When changing over to a different product, the trays are unbolted and exchanged for a new size or shape. A metal jig is used to cut new shapes and trays are continually inspected, maintained, and replaced.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Must be 21+ years old.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to pass post-offer and annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) clearance to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to pass Dept. of Transporation (DOT) drug/alcohol screens at any time
  • Communication proficiency: verbal and writing
  • Computer skills: Excel, Outlook, and web
  • An excellent attendance and safety record is required.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check upon hire and annually.
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and problem solve
  • Ability to follow and read instructions
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and robotics terminology (including sizes and materials)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drives company vehicle locally to pick up parts and deliver parts.
  • Assists the Parts Cage Supervisor with parts orders, stocking, sorting, & keeping inventory in our on-site stockroom.
  • Maintains, constructs, repairs, and replaces trays for box sealing machines.
  • Repairs and replaces worn seal pads for box sealing machine.
  • Lives and communicates Elmer Chocolate Values; our guiding principles.
  • Follows all safety procedures and food laws (Good Manufacturing Practices - GMPs).

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, bend, kneel, reach, crouch, crawl, use force, carry & push/pull.
  • Ability to stand & walk for 8+ hours.
  • Ability to climb up and down one flight of stairs
  • Ability to hear and speak.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regular and prompt attendance on site is required.
  • Work drug & alcohol free according to DOT regulations.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work weekends & overtime if requested (rare).

Work Environment and Conditions:

Works in a food manufacturing environment where the plant is in operations 1-2 shifts per day. Climate controlled environment with occasional exposure to high heat & humidity in kitchen & tank room areas. Proper use of PPE required in some areas.
