As a leading division of PPG, we specialize in manufacturing, testing, and applying Asphalt Emulsions, Sealers, Joint/Crack Seals, Fog Seals, Micro/Slurry Seals, Chip Seals, and more. Vance Brothers is looking for a Superintendent to oversee and lead an established chip seal team. This full-time, year-round position offers the opportunity to work with an experienced crew and play a key role in delivering high-quality pavement maintenance projects.The Superintendent will ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and in accordance with company and customer specifications.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Manage road construction crew including hiring, performance management and training.
  • Assure customer satisfaction through delivery of quality work completed on time with minimal disruption.
  • Represent Vance brothers with integrity and professionalism.
  • Travel to jobsites to evaluate product quality and application including jobs out of town.
  • Troubleshoot product quality and abide by specifications.
  • Order needed materials.
  • Enforce the company safety program by correcting daily offense of policy, conducting weekly toolboxes, attending monthly safety meetings and complete accident reports if needed.
  • Report all equipment issues to the shop and take measures to minimize damage if repair is needed.
  • Conduct pre-job meetings before starting each project.
  • Ensure company vehicles are clean, inside and outside to represent Vance Brothers.
  • Manage a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in residential/highway road construction projects; manage manual work in preparing surfaces for paving.
  • Manage basic road repair and maintenance tasks; reports safety hazards and traffic problems.
  • Ability to work extended hours & irregular days with irregular breaks.
  • Maintain a clean staging area: pick up all tools and equipment, lock all tanks and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Manage traffic control, signage and flagging.
  • Ensure time sheets are completed correctly, checked for accuracy and submitted.
  • Complete all other assigned duties.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Previous experience in chip seal, asphalt, roadway construction, pavement maintenance, or related construction operations required.
  • Prior supervisory or crew leadership experience required.
  • Strong understanding of roadway construction practices, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand project specifications, schedules, and work orders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational and field issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with traffic control and work zone safety standards preferred.
  • Proficiency with email communication and daily reporting.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for out-of-town projects as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and wind.
  • Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain, active highway projects, and construction zones.
  • Ability to climb in and out of trucks and construction equipment repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, reflective vests, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, nights, and irregular schedules during peak construction seasons.
  • Ability to maintain awareness and focus in high-traffic and safety-sensitive environments.
