POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Appoquinimink School District offers a Spanish Immersion program and a Chinese Immersion program Kindergarten through 8th grade. Under direction of the Building Principal, the Substitute provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Rate of Pay:
Substitute Teacher:
  • High School Diploma/GED/Associate Degree - Class C - $15.06 per hour
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher - Class B - $19.06 per hour
  • A college student with a Major in Education that will qualify for a Teaching License with 60 plus credits- Class B- $19.06 per hour
  • Certified Teacher - Class A - $23.86 per hour

Substitute Paraprofessional:
  • Specialized paraprofessional (RISE, Foundations, Skill Builders and ChangeMakers) - $19.06 per hour
  • Other paraprofessionals- $15.06 per hour

Substitutes are Casual Seasonal Employees and are not eligible for Benefits.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
This position may require frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required. Additional demands for the paraprofessional positions may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities. Assist with self-care plans such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing and other daily living activities; physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating, able to kneel and work on the floor with students, able to walk for long periods. Assistance with physically aggressive behaviors.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

  • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
