Carolina Chillers, LLC specializes in HVAC service, controls, installation, maintenance agreements, parts, equipment, and equipment relocations, as well as complete system evaluations to determine building and facility efficiency. We are a licensed, full service mechanical contractor for all types of mechanical equipment including air handlers, cooling towers, motors, pumps, valves, controls, variable frequency drives, data room HVAC, and chillers. Our customer base consists of commercial, medical, and industrial facilities and applications. Position: Commercial HVAC Chiller Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial HVAC Chiller Technician to join our team based in our Columbia SC office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and installing commercial and industrial chillers, cooling towers, and related HVAC equipment. This role requires:
  • Expertise in various chiller systems, including air, centrifugal, screw, reciprocating, and scroll chillers.
  • Need to have a working knowledge of all mechanical systems including trouble shooting, repair, and maintain complex mechanical air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment
  • Ability to work on the following equipment brands: Trane, Carrier, York, and Daikin Centrifugal, Reciprocating, Screw and Scroll Chillers
  • Ability to retrofit systems with support of others. Have a basic understanding of sheet metal and piping concepts
  • Have a working knowledge of PC's, application software. Be able to operate in a DOS or windows environment successfully using Building Management Systems
  • Have working knowledge of schematic reading

Troubleshooting
  • Follow systematic questioning techniques and relate answers to the functioning of the system upon receiving the customer service request
  • The technician will be assigned specific accounts and will be responsible for:
    • Perform chiller overhauls, major inspections, retrofits as required by customer
    • Maintain record of work performed and parts/materials used
    • Communicate effectively with customers on a regular basis regarding equipment condition, needed repairs and general operating condition
    • Use proper tools and instruments for troubleshooting. Avoid needless callbacks by checking the complete system before leaving the job
    • Check safety and limit controls for proper setting before leaving the job.
    • Seek help when faced with a seemingly unsolvable problem

Customer Relations
  • Inform customers when arriving at the job or leaving the job and if needed when you plan to return. Clearly explain work performed both verbally and in writing on the service report
  • Explore a customer complaint to determine the real problem. Respond to the customer complaints with the proper amount of sympathy and empathy
  • Communicate tactfully and offer suggestions when the problem is caused by the customer's use of the system (rather than a fault of the system). Instruct on the proper operation
  • Give assurance to customers that the problem is fixed; explaining cause and remedy; and if problem has not been fixed, offer explanations of situation and suggest next steps

Requirements
Education/Experience
  • Knowledge and skills at a level normally acquired through job experience and technical/apprentice school certification
  • 3-5 years of experience in the field working on chiller equipment

• Knowledge of chiller systems from manufacturers such as Trane, Carrier, York, and Daikin.
• Familiarity with BAS (Building Automation Systems) and controls.
Licenses/Credentials/Certifications
  • EPA Universal Certification

Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities
  • Calm, organized, patient, diplomatic, and confident demeanor in working with other associates and vendors
  • Comfort in relating to all levels of management and diversity of personalities
  • Advanced attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
