Position Title: Early Learning Center ISPReports to: Director of Early Learning

FLSA: Non-exempt


Summary of the position:

A childcare worker is responsible for the overall well-being of children in their care, including supervising playtime, ensuring safety, providing basic needs like feeding and changing diapers, maintaining a clean environment, implementing educational activities, and communicating effectively with parents to support children's development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Safety – actively monitor children to ensure safety and follow established safety protocols.
  • Basic needs care – prepare and serve meals and snacks, change diapers, assist with toileting, and maintain good hygiene practices for children.
  • Developmental activities – plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote children’s cognitive, social, and physical development.
  • Curriculum implementation – follow established lesson plans and curriculum guidelines incorporating educational elements into daily routines.
  • Communication with staff and parents – Maintain open communication with staff and parents, updating parents on the child’s progress, addressing concerns, and providing regular feedback.
  • Classroom management – Create a positive and nurturing learning environment, manage classroom dynamics, and resolve conflicts between children.
  • Recordkeeping – maintain accurate records of children’s daily activities, observations, and significant events.
  • Cleanliness & sanitation – ensure the childcare facility is organized, clean, and sanitized following hygiene standards.
  • Maintains the same ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the licensed staff.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Checks and record attendance.
  • Supervises playground time, meal or snack times, bus loading, and other activity-oriented programs.
  • Assumes any responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Promotes good public relations for the School Corporation and community.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

(ISP – minimum of CDA preferred)

  • Passion for working with children and families – a genuine interest in providing care and nurturing children’s development.
  • Child Development knowledge – understanding of different developmental stages and age-appropriate activities.
  • Effective communication skills – ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and staff.
  • Patience and adaptability – the ability to manage challenging behaviors and adapt to changing situations.
  • Physical ability – ability to lift and carry children, kneel, and play on the floor.
  • Hold or obtain – CPR/First AID
  • Obtain TB test, Drug Screen, Physical, and background check; passing these is a requirement for employment.
  • Additional training as required by the state of Indiana.
