Job description

Bernstein is looking for a US Chief Talent Officer to lead the US talent practice for Wall Street's premier research firm. Bernstein is a global brand defined by its best-in-class investment research, sales, and trading services, whose intellectual rigor, relentless curiosity, and drive to create value for clients is respected across finance. The US Chief Talent Officer will lead a small team toย recruit, design and implement development, management and retention programs for staff across all levels, and play a key strategic role in the firm's senior leadership reporting directly to the CEO in New York with a dotted line to our Global Chief Talent Officer based in London.ย  The ideal candidate has experience in a professional services, financial services, or technology firm, leading talent from a business-focused perspective.ย 

The US Chief Talent Officer's responsibilities include:

  • Leading Talent Development, Performance Management, HR, Talent Acquisition
  • Keeping apprised of developments in talent retention and engagement to motivate and incentivize our people
  • Overseeing a team which includes an HRBP, Head of Talent Acquisition, Talent Programming Associate, and Recruiting Coordinator
  • Coaching senior leaders for success
  • Succession planning and talent/skills forecasting
  • Maintaining and evolving the Bernstein culture
  • Serving as a trusted, pragmatic partner to the CEO and Global Chief Talent Officer, capable of navigating complexity and influencing across a matrixed organization

Basic Qualifications

  • 15 years of progressive experience in talent management, human resources, or people strategy, with significant time spent in leadership roles
  • Proven track record leading enterprise-wide talent functions, including talent development, performance management, HR business partnering, and talent acquisition
  • Experience operating within professional services, financial services, or technology organizations with a strong performance culture
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence senior leadership on talent strategy, organizational design, and leadership effectiveness
  • Experience building, leading, and developing small, high-impact teams where leaders are expected to "roll up their sleeves"
  • Strong expertise in succession planning, workforce planning, and leadership development at scale
  • Data-driven approach to talent decisions, with experience leveraging metrics and analytics to drive outcomes
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage at all levels of the organization
  • Bachelor's degree required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating in a global, matrixed organization with close collaboration across regions and functions, with the ability to successfully navigate governance, multiple stakeholders, and decision-making layers
  • Demonstrated success shaping and evolving organizational culture in a high-performance, intellectually rigorous environment
  • Track record of designing and directly implementing innovative programs for engagement, retention, and employee experience
  • Familiarity with the unique talent dynamics of investment research, front-office financial services, or similarly analytical businesses
  • Strong change management experience, including leading organizational transformations or cultural evolution initiatives
  • High level of intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and ability to balance empathy with a results-oriented mindset

The role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and includes a competitive benefits package including 401(k) plan with company match, Medical/Dental/Vision, and other benefits for fertility, wellness, student loans and commuters. Actual base salary offer will vary based on skills and experience.
