Job description

Software Engineer II

San Francisco, California (In-Office)

Banking is being reimagined—and customers expect every interaction to be easy, personal, and instant.

We are building a universal banking assistant that millions of U.S. consumers can use to transact across all financial institutions and, over time, autonomously drive their financial goals. Powered by our proprietary BankGPT platform, this assistant is positioned to displace age-old legacy systems within financial institutions and own the end-to-end CX stack, unlocking a $200B opportunity and potentially replacing multiple publicly traded companies.

Ultimately, our mission is to drive financial well-being for millions of consumers.

With over two-thirds of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, 50% holding less than $500 in savings, and only 17% financially literate, we aim to put financial well-being on autopilot to help solve this problem.

About Interface.ai

We're building the technology that lets every American access the kind of financial guidance that used to be reserved for the wealthy. Backed by $30M in Series A funding and already cash-flow positive, interface.ai delivers agentic AI and conversational AI solutions to financial institutions—helping credit unions and community banks serve their members at scale. We're not building demos. We're in production, growing fast, and just getting started.

The Opportunity

You'll join a small, high-output engineering team working directly alongside our VP of Engineering, CTO and Co-Founder Bruce Kim, and CEO Srinivas Njay. We ship fast, we own our work end-to-end, and every line of code you write touches real users in a meaningful way. This is the kind of role where 2 years from now you'll point to things in production and say, "I built that."

What You'll Work On
  • Design, build, and ship features on our core platform—APIs, services, and integrations that power real-time conversational AI at scale
  • Own your work from first commit to production—you write it, you deploy it, you monitor it
  • Build backend services in TypeScript and Python; contribute to frontend interfaces in JavaScript
  • Integrate and extend AI-driven workflows—you'll be writing against LLM APIs, not just using chat products
  • Collaborate daily with product and engineering in our SF office—no silos, no handoffs, just fast iteration
  • Use AI-native development tools (Claude Code, Cursor) as core parts of your workflow—not as a curiosity
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years of software engineering experience with real production systems under your belt
  • Shipped something you're proud of—a product, a feature, a platform—and can speak to it in detail
  • Strong command of TypeScript, Python, or both; JavaScript for frontend work
  • Experience with platform engineering fundamentals: APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD
  • AI-fluent—you understand how LLMs work, how to build around them, and how to leverage AI tooling to move faster
  • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent rigor (we care about fundamentals)
  • Startup DNA: you move with urgency, figure things out independently, and don't wait for a spec to tell you what's obvious
  • Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco—you'll be here 5 days a week
Bonus Points
  • Experience in conversational AI, NLP, or agentic systems
  • Domain knowledge in fintech, banking, or financial services
  • Prior startup experience, especially in a 10–50 person company
Why Interface.ai

Series A · $30M raised · Cash-flow positive. We've got real traction, real customers, and a real mission. You'll work in a modern SF office, surrounded by engineers who ship, a leadership team that codes, and a CEO who can explain every layer of the stack. We offer competitive compensation, meaningful equity, full benefits, and the rarest thing in tech—genuine impact on people's financial lives.

Compensation: Base $180,857–$220,498 + Bonus + Equity + Benefits

At Interface.ai, we are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees and applicants. We celebrate diversity and believe it is critical to our success as a company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other legally protected status. All employment decisions at Interface.ai are based on business needs, job requirements, and individual qualifications. We strive to create a culture that values and respects each person's unique perspective and contributions. We encourage all qualified individuals to apply for employment opportunities with Interface.ai and are committed to ensuring that our hiring process is inclusive and accessible.
