We are seeking a visionary physician executive to serve as our next Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and help shape the future of integrated healthcare delivery.
Position Summary
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as the senior physician executive responsible for clinical vision, medical strategy, quality of care, and medical oversight across the organization. The CMO provides executive leadership for psychiatric, behavioral health, nursing, and integrated primary care services while maintaining a direct connection to patient care through a limited clinical practice.
Working closely with the CEO and executive leadership team, the CMO advances clinical excellence, drives innovation, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports the organization's growth and long-term sustainability.
This position is based at the Copa Administrative Office with regular travel to Copa Health locations to support organizational and clinical operations. Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and customized hiring incentives available for qualified candidates.
What You'll Do
  • Lead the organization's medical strategy and clinical vision.
  • Provide executive oversight of psychiatric, behavioral health, nursing, and integrated care services.
  • Champion high-quality, evidence-based, person-centered care.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Drive quality improvement, patient safety, and population health initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with AHCCCS, Medicare, Medicaid, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support operational excellence, strategic growth, and financial sustainability.
  • Serve as the organization's senior medical authority on clinical standards, medical decision-making, and patient safety.

Qualifications
Required
  • MD or DO from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry (ABPN).
  • Current Arizona medical license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of psychiatric practice experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of physician leadership or executive medical leadership experience.

Preferred
  • Experience in community behavioral health, integrated care, managed care, FQHC, or value-based care environments.
  • Experience serving Medicaid, AHCCCS, and Serious Mental Illness (SMI) populations.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary healthcare teams and large-scale clinical initiatives.
