Job description

The primary role of the Chief Electrician is to direct the activities and tasks of the electrical underground and 
surface personnel to ensure that the installation, alteration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical 
systems, equipment, and fixtures. Provides technical and operational expertise for design, estimates, mobilization, obtaining quates selecting materials and equipment (procurement process) with respect to electrical installations at Redpath projects ensuring adherence to safety policies, practices, and regulations. The incumbent assigns duties and inspects the work of a group of electricians, apprentices, and helpers and directs and oversees some of the more difficult electrical tasks

Education: 
1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred. 
 

Work Experience:
1. Required: 10 Years in an Industrial or Construction Electrician role with a minimum of 5 years primarily 
experienced in underground mining. 
2. Minimum 5 years supervisory experience. 
3. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements 
to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver's License and acceptable driving record. 
4. Proficient in the use of computers and associated software. 
5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. 
 

Knowledge Required: 
1. Excel at reading and applying information from documents such as electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC circuits, Parts and service manuals, policies and procedures. 
2. Extensive knowledge of electric legislation, safety, protocols, codes. 
3. Extensive knowledge of project prioritization, project execution, project management, including knowledge of construction, commissioning, handover, and post-project activities in mining operations. 
4. Extensive experience with interfacing with multiple functions and roles and at all levels within the organization. 
5. Extensive experience with project management and organizational skills including time management, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
6. Extensive knowledge and experience with electric power distribution, design, and operation of low, medium and high voltage systems. 
7. Extensive knowledge and experience with power transmission, full electrical product cycle, power control and protection systems. 
8. Extensive knowledge and experience with electrical maintenance systems.
9. Experience managing and supervising employees. 
10. Strong leadership skills and problem solving.
11. Strong organizational and planning skills.
12. Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written. 
13. Strong written and reporting skills.

1. Assigns, schedules, supervises and lays out the work assignments. 
2. Maintains records of assigned electrical projects including completion date, supplies and equipment used 
and costs incurred. 
3. Orders, receives and distributes supplies for assigned projects to electrical staff in a timely and efficient 
manner to ensure projects are completed on schedule. 
4. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of parts and equipment to ensure electrical systems and 
equipment can be repaired in a timely and effective manner.
5. Coordinates activities of the electricians with activities of other departments to ensure successful completion 
of projects and goals. 
6. Identifies and troubleshoots complex electrical problems and facilitates repairs to defects in electrical 
systems and equipment, which involves the performance of electrical tasks. 
7. Conducts a preventative maintenance inspection program in order to proactively identify and correct any 
electrical systems or equipment which might lead to electrical maintenance problems or failures. 
8. Responsible for site electrical inspections and provided corrective solutions. 
9. Reviews and monitors safety procedures to ensure electricians are following Redpath USA Corporation and 
client safety policies as well as any electrical industry recognized safety procedures and policies. 
10. Maintains service records of all key electrical equipment as required and as needed to meet any state or 
Federal requirements.
11. Provides cost and time estimates for electrical projects as requested. 
12. Plans and coordinates in the design of new equipment installations including selection of appropriate 
electrical panels, wire sizes, disconnects, etc.to meet project needs. 
13. Provide budget and detailed electrical estimates to estimating personnel. 
14. Provide project mobilization and technical support. 
15. Accountable for Redpath's compliance with electrical standards, policies and procedures 
16. Collaborates approval of all electrical equipment selection. 
17. Audits electrical installations, procedures and compliance with legislation 
18. Develop guidelines for electrical installations with respect to best practices and QA/QC requirements. 
19. Review of proposals, estimates, designs and budgets related to electrical installations and equipment. 
20. Review and comment on electrical scopes, designs and methodologies generated by other members of the 
team. 
21. Accountable and responsible to ensure Electrical Engineering specifications and criteria comply with 
applicable government (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.) and corporate codes, practices, policies, standards, and 
specifications.
22. Develop, propose and implement as appropriate new technologies. 
23. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath USA Corporation and client business information. 
24. Ensures electricians have appropriate resources to complete their duties such as training, tools, and 
instructions.
25. Manages competing customer requirements with available resources to deliver services in the most efficient 
method.
26. Performs administrative functions to fulfill business operational needs and review staff work for accuracy.
27. Ensure that workers are qualified and capable of safely performing assigned work. 
28. Responsible for the hiring, evaluation, commendation, training, disciplinary action, and dismissals regarding 
supervised staff. 
29. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath's Policies and Procedures as detailed in the appropriate 
manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). 
30. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations. 
31. Able to travel frequently, which may include remote locations. 
32. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned verbally and/or in written form.
