Position - Chief Inspector - NYSDOT
Reports to: Project Manager
Technical Responsibilities:
- Handle daily field inspection reports and follow procedures for any noted inconsistencies.
- Evaluate plans, specifications, and submittals for inspection conditions.
- Review all work sites and suggest modifications as per requirements for improvement of procedures.
- Interact and converse with project managers, contractors, and project staff as needed.
- Attending pre-construction and project progress meeting, as necessary.
- Maintaining accurate records of documentation.
- Monitor and regularly check on the contractor's work progress.
- Review project information with clients and project staff to describe project details for interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Comprehend required inspection codes and requirements to carry out testing.
- Attending close-out meetings, as necessary.
- Responsive to Client and other KSE Manager/ needs, and all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Educational Requirements and Experience:
- 5-10 years of experience with either NICET IV or an equivalent.
- Highway and Bridge experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including solid interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions
- Extended periods of standing and walking possibly on uneven or challenging terrains
- Climbing, bending, kneeling
- Working long hours
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Professional Licenses/Registrations:
- Valid NICET IV Certification in transportation/highway construction.
- (ACI) American Concrete Institute (ACI) and (NETCCP) North East Transportation Technician Certification Program (NETTCP) - Soils and Aggregate Inspector Certification preferred.
Professional Development:
- Willing to pursue professional development, training, and licensing.
