Job description

Merrimack Health is currently offering a sign-on bonus for Chief Fireman roles, with the amount depending on scheduled hours. Full-time positions are eligible for an $8,000 bonus.
At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $46.79 an hour, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.
Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.
Under the direction of the Director, the Chief Fireman-2nd Class is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of power plant boilers, pumps, auxiliary equipment, and water filter systems. Schedules for power plant coverage 24/7 as required by state law.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person in this position is required to hold a Massachusetts 2nd class Engineering License and sign all the necessary operating logs and all regulatory compliance reports, including but not limited to, DEQE, EPA, DEP and risk insurance agencies.
  • Responsible for steam load management,
  • Calculate combustion efficiencies, water consumption, and steam production,
  • Assist the Facility Director and Coordinator in preparing budgets and energy management reports.
  • Oversees the chemical water treatment program for all hydronic systems.
  • Performs combustion efficiency evaluations to determine fuel source.
  • Provides quality control measures for all stored fuel to prevent contamination.
  • Licensed C operator for inground tank.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • High School or Trade School diploma.
  • Massachusetts Third Class Engineer License.
  • 5 years minimum experience in steam power generation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and controls.
