Job description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides executive leadership and oversight of the hospital financial operations. Key responsibilities include managing overall accounting and financial operations and leading efforts to analyze the organization's processes for efficiency and effectiveness to recommend/implement appropriate changes. As a member of the senior team, the CFO is charged with representing the organization's financial interests while also making decisions consistent with the hospital's strategic plan. This position may also serve as the Hospital Compliance Officer.

  • Prepares and submits, for approval, annual operating and capital budgets, and a budget request for the county tax request.
  • Analyzes, interprets and reports monthly financial reports to the CEO, Hospital Board of Trustees and UnityPoint Health-Des Moines CFO.
  • Develops recommendations for services that will provide for the financial stability of the hospital.
  • Ensures that adequate internal controls are maintained in order to inhibit the misuse of hospital assets and/or ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Reviews or supervises review of all contracts in accordance with Board of Trustees guidelines on contract review and approval and provides recommendations to CEO from a fiscal and compliance standpoint.
  • Makes recommendations regarding hospital involvement in payor networks, and monitors strategies for access to care through inclusion in appropriate payor contracts.
  • Works with auditors in preparation, submission and review of annual audit and hospital cost report
  • Keeps current with all government regulations affecting the facility's fiscal policies and procedures; provides assistance as requested in order fiscal matters.
  • Supervises financial business operations and provides administrative supervision of assigned departments.
  • Mentors direct reports and other leaders with regular formal and informal interactions.
  • Active collaboration with UnityPoint Health to enhance and support continued growth of the relationship with UnityPoint Health and its affiliates in the hospital and community.
  • Facilitates strong relationships and fosters a collaborative team environment.
  • Required:Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline
  • Required:minimum of 5 years' experience in a financial management position
  • Preferred:Master of Healthcare Administration, Master of Business Administration or health-related master's degree
  • Preferred:Knowledge of health care financing and delivery of health care services
  • Preferred:Iowa CPA license preferred
  • Preferred:Achievement of Healthcare Financial Management Associate (HFMA) Fellowship designation preferred
