What you will have an opportunity to do:

The Phelps Residence Inn is seeking a motivated and hands-on Assistant Chief Engineer to support the day-to-day operations of our Engineering department. This position works closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure our hotel remains safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for our guests and associates.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong technical skills, leadership experience, and a passion for delivering exceptional service. This role is responsible for assisting with preventative maintenance, repairs, life safety systems, vendor coordination, and leading the engineering team in the Chief Engineer's absence.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in the daily operation of the Engineering department.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and building systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance issues.
  • Respond promptly to guest service requests while providing exceptional hospitality.
  • Assist with scheduling, training, coaching, and developing Engineering associates.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, fire and life safety standards, and company policies.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors performing maintenance or repairs.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, preventative maintenance records, and equipment documentation.
  • Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies and parts.
  • Support capital improvement projects and hotel renovations as assigned.
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty rotation as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of building maintenance or engineering experience, preferably in a hotel or commercial property.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and equipment specifications is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces.
